UNITED SERVICES PORTSMOUTH RUGBY CLUB JUNIOR CLUB: CODES OF CONDUCT Player’s name ___________________________________________ AGREES to: Abide by the Rules and spirit of the game which includes the following as a minimum; • Never use deliberate or dangerous play, poor sportsmanship or behave in a way which puts another person at risk. • Do not use foul language, and always show respect & courtesy to officials, players & parents. • Always show the greatest respect for the REFEREE and all match officials. Respect – Players should treat each other, coaches and any person involved with the club with respect. This includes to coaches, welcoming new players and under no circumstances bullying any member of this or any other Rugby Club. Approach each session with enthusiasm and an open mind, encouraging and helping others at all times. Treat equipment with respect, and respect the facilities provided by the Club and facilities offered when playing away. Attitude – Be gracious in victory and defeat. Enjoyment and skill development are the most important parts of the game. Attendance – Always be punctual. Be ready to train at least 5 minutes before the session starts. This includes wearing appropriate clothing. If players cannot attend a session please inform your coach or manager, preferably at least 24 hours in advance. If you agree to play in any match whether at home or away, you must arrive at the appointed place at the time agreed with your coach or manager. Commitment – To be good at anything you must be committed and this is essential for rugby. You must be fit, attend training sessions and have a will to win. The more of your team that attends training sessions, the more skills can be taught, so you will all become better, fitter players, and you will win more games. Violation of the Code of Conduct and action to be taken: • If as a parent/guardian, player, coach or observer, you feel that part of the Code of Conduct is being broken, it is essential that this is raised with a coach, the Child Protection Officer, or any other club official. They will deal with the matter in the appropriate manner. This must be done quickly so that action can be taken to address the cause for concern. In cases of inappropriate player behaviour, each instance will be noted with the coach. If this behaviour is disruptive to the enjoyment of the session, action will be taken. Action for cases of inappropriate player behaviour: • The individual concerned will be corrected by the coach or other official. If behaviour or attitude (at that time or in the future) does not improve, the player will be told to leave the field and wait in the clubhouse until the session finishes. If any subsequent incidents occur the player will be required, with a parent or guardian, to appear before the committee, which could lead to them being expelled from the club. Coaches will always plan training sessions to develop all aspects of the team’s performance. • Encourage and constructively support players, encourage a good sense of fair play and sportsmanship and set a good example of sportsmanlike conduct. • Use appropriate language and refrain from inappropriate or foul language. • Show respect and courtesy to players, referees, opponents, parents/guardians and fellow coaches at all times. • Respect the long term development of players and respect that winning is not the only goal. • Never employ methods or practices that could involve risks to the health or development of players, fellow coaches and volunteers. • Not manipulate rules in order to take advantage of opponents. • Adhere to the Child Protection Policy, and respect player confidentiality. Parents/Guardians and spectators agree to: • Always encourage and applaud good play to BOTH teams. • Never attempt to interfere with the game in process, or ridicule or shout at players. • Show respect towards coaches and referees. • Remember that players are taking part for their enjoyment: rugby should be fun. • Help players to achieve their objectives – criticism does not help anyone to improve; constructive advice and encouragement does! • Ensure that the club has your emergency contact number, and that the club registration forms are completed, signed and returned. • Share any concerns with Club Officials. • Be aware that the club has a duty of care and therefore, when appropriate and with the agreement of the coach, assist coaches with the supervision of the players. • When the match is played away it is very helpful if parents can organize themselves to ensure that all players have transport to and from the match.
