“Overall the experience went
well, and I know the kids enjoy a
nice valentines snack.”
JUNK OR
JEWEL
By Sam Ollinger
Alexa Jean Sieren, or “Lexi” as she
is known by her friends, was born
on July 14, 1995. She was brought
into the world by parents, Aaron
and Jeri Sieren. Lexi has three
younger brothers: Nate, Sam, and
Chase. Lexi’s favorite childhood
memory is going to Disney World.
She enjoys having three little
brothers because they keep things
“interesting.” When Lexi was just
a young girl she imagined herself
growing up to be a ballerina. Her
favorite childhood memory is family vacations at Lake Lacy.
While being in high school she
has been in several extracurricular activities including: volleyball,
basketball, track, Student Council,
Rock N’ Prevention, DARE, National
Honor Society, dance team, and
yearbook staff. Her favorite was
volleyball, because she enjoys play-
ing the sport. Physical education is
Lexi’s favorite class of the day because “it is fun and it’s a good time
to hang with friends.”
Lexi’s favorite thing about junior
high was getting to start sports.
Her favorite high school memory
is cheering from the stands at basketball games. There will be several
things Lexi will miss about high
school, but the thing she will miss
the most is seeing her friends every
day.
Lexi worked at the Keota Pool
this last year and plans on doing
the same this summer. There she
guards the lives of children. Her
hobbies include playing sports,
hanging out with friends and hanging out with her huge family.
Lexi plans to attend the

GIRLS PUT UP TOUGH FIGHT
By Spencer Baumert
Back in September of 2011
Kevin Weber purchased his own
white, hood-scooped, Pontiac
Grand Am GT. Kevin says he paid
his uncle, who rebuilt it, $5,800.
When I asked for the top speed,
the only answer I got was “The
3.4 Liter V6 gets the job done.”
K-Web says he loves his car
because of its dependability.
Some of his favorite memories are driving it home when
he received it and late night
cruising with his friends. On the
other hand, his worst memory is
bumping into his brother’s truck
while trying to back out of the
garage. Kevin’s dream car is a
2013 Chevy Camaro. Although
it’s not a Camaro, his ride is fully
loaded with subs, Pontiac decals
and blue L.E.D. floor lights. Kevin
says it’s been a great car and one
of his best purchases. Now it’s
time for you to decide. Is it junk
or a jewel?

JH girls show improvement
By Matt Slaughter
The Jr. High Girls Basketball team
had one team this year for both 7th
and 8th grades.
Team members in 8th grade included Erin Chalupa, Maddie Johnson
(manager), Raigan Sprouse, Kaylin
Swanson, Elise Swanstrom, and Mallory Woltering.
Team members in 7th grade were
Melissa Apel, Kylie Beinhart, Wynonna
Morris, and Olivia Sieren.
The girls were coached by the husband and wife duo of Jeff and Molly
Sprouse.
Coach Jeff Sprouse commented
on the season by saying, “This was
a tough year looking at their record
of 1-8. However, what we are after is
improvement at this level. This group
did improve, as was shown in their
last game at E.V. They beat us before
Christmas by 12 points. A month later
we went to E.V. and won 22-3. That
was a very large statement in how
the kids improved! It showed them
that they were getting better, which is
what we are after.”
The KHS Varsity Girls Basketball team played a tough game last Friday
night against Meskwaki Settlement School. Keota had the game within two
points near the end, but the girls weren’t able to pull off the win by the final
buzzer. The final score was 49-55, to finish off the girls’ season with a 15-9 record. Top scorers were Brooke Sieren with 13 points and Kelsi Sieren with 12.

STUDENT
SPOTLIGHT
The
Model Life
By Luke Lyle
Though she seems to be just
a regular high school student,
this 16-year old junior at KHS
has another side you may
not know about. Cara Hahn is
starting to get into the modeling business.
Cara met Roxanne Smith
(IMTA Recruiter) in November.
IMTA stands for International
Models and Talent. Since
then, Cara has been attending
workshops and training for
modeling with Marc Tuscher.
Even with all of that, she is
managing to find the time to
take some acting lessons with
Riley Smith as well.
Cara has already hit the road
to places like Los Angeles and
Chicago. She went to Los Angeles for an IMTA event, along
with nine other people her
age from Iowa. There she tried
to get her name out there.
She received twelve call-backs
from different agencies.
One of the call-backs was
from the HOP Agency out
of Chicago. Last week she
traveled to Chicago to have a
meeting with them. Cara said,
“It went really well, and hopefully I’ll get a contract worked
out soon.”
I also asked her how she
liked it so far and she said, “I
am really enjoying it. I get to
meet so many new people
and I have fun doing it.”
Though Cara is just starting
off, her future is looking bright
in modeling and acting.
SONG OF
THE WEEK
By Derek Berg
The lyrics from last week’s
song were “Take a sad song
and make it better; remember
to let it into your heart, then
you can start to make it better”.
This song is called Hey Jude by
The Beatles and was released in
1968.
This week’s great lyrics are:
“Silk suit, black tie,
I don’t need a reason why.”
Read next week’s issue to find
out the name and artist of this
song.
