1 Welcome and apologies
Mike Jones welcomed everybody to the meeting. Apologies for absence are shown above.
2 Minutes and actions from previous meeting

3 Project Plan 2015 (SR)
a. General
The route will have to be amended due to a road closure on Ashby Road. It has
been proposed that we will double back through Loughborough University on to
Epinal Way. DP to speak to Severn Trent to get a programme for where they expect
to be on Judging Day (Action 29)
CF advised we have entered the best Business and the best pub for the ‘Special
Awards’, there was no entry this year for best font garden.
b. Community
Next community participation meeting planned for
c. CBC, Quadron & LCC
 A meeting has been arranged for the 11/06/2015 between CBC and
Highways regarding the siting of the hanging basket trees in the Town Centre
(Action 30)
 SR advised the winter baskets are in the process of coming down and the
summer baskets are being installed.
 JH raised concerns as to whether some of the BiD baskets are duplicated
with some of the CBC ones, therefore being charged twice. JH and NC to go
through the list and ensure this isn’t happening (Action 31)

MJ suggested that it is arranged for hanging baskets to be put up on the
straight from Ashby Road to Alan Moss. NC advised the baskets for these
areas are being used on the new hanging basket trees.
NC confirmed the bedding is going in. Queens Park is virtually complete now.
Queens Park was judged by Green Flag judges last month, it was recognised
that the Friends Group did a great job.
DP confirmed the Forestry operatives are due out to tidy up the areas before
LiB. DP advised that it takes 3 weeks for weeds to die after being sprayed.
SR and DP to have a discussion around Grass Cutting for LiB (Action 32).
MJ suggested we plant a ‘yew tree’ for remembrance of Magna Carta. HF
advised she will discuss with NG and come back to MJ within 5 working days
(Action 33).
d. BID/CoTC
 JH confirmed he had picked up the A5 stickers and posters and will deliver
these to businesses.
 The board decided to site the little boy sculpture at the Carillon entrance on
Market Street by Angel Yard.
e. University
 The ladybird bed has now been planted, the Bloom Board commented on
how nice it looks.
f. Media

The Echo continues to seek Bloom articles and photo's, both for the Newspaper and
for the website, which is now very important
g. Competitions
 CF advised that we had received no applications for the Art & Digital
photography competition. However Mike Jones suggested that EMiB might
accept late applications.
 MJ advised he had received 10 entries from schools for the tallest sunflower
competition.
 MJ to give MS the list of entries for the spring garden competition. (Action
34)
4 Any Other Business

MJ asked if the garsey planters (darleks) are still being donated to the Community
Groups. (Action 35)

7 NC to approach the Magistrates Court about putting up hanging baskets.

using their volunteers help maintain this feature and this was rejected. AR is
going to raise this with 3M again.

29 DP to ask Severn Trent for a programme of where they plan to be and what roads
will be closed on the 16th July.
30 Update Bloom Board regarding siting of Hanging Basket Trees in the town centre

Items to note for 2015 planning / thinking
 Planters for street furniture on the new ring road (previous notes say NG to action).
 School Arts competition – clarity on deadlines for EMIB submission (these were extended at a
late stage in 2014), develop our understanding of other competition rules e.g. Heart of
England.
 Town Hall planters.
 Bloom banners / posters.
 SR and NG to develop a short guidance note for BID and Chamber of Commerce.
 Epinal Way Beds (Beacon Road / Forest Road) – need to be in better order, LCC
responsibility.
 Balcony competition (MS already consulting on this).
 How to engage public sector in Bloom 2015 (previously agreed that this should be on the
agenda for the November Board meeting)
 Public sector buildings competition 2016.
 Sculpture options and funding.
 Learning from other towns and cities.
 How to reflect Ladybird centenary celebrations.
 Refreshing / changing the route.
 Musicians, artists, poets, writers etc. (e.g. “Writer in residence” approach), PL to lead.
 New theme for Baxter Gate & Wood Gate 2015
 Review options for more in-depth use of a wider range of media e.g. East Midlands today
