Interview On A Leadership Role In A Hospital
Introduction And Purpose of Interview
An interview is conducted while doing right necessary arrangements from an MD in a
private hospital in the UK and the primary purpose of the interview is told to the respondent. For
the arrangement of the interview, the appointment is taken well before for conducting the
interview of almost one hour. The approach used is the open-end discussion in which the mixture
of structured and unstructured questionnaires is asked. The agenda and purpose of this interview
is to determine the role of leadership in the hospital so that it would be helpful for the academic
purpose. In the methodology, the detailed role of the leadership while asking the necessary traits
are highlighted. The results/findings of the interview then recorded as I have done the rephrase
training for recording the interview results or findings.
Methodology
The interview with the MD of a private hospital in the UK includes both the structured
and unstructured questions to make it more effective and productive. The approach used for
conducting the interview was more of standardized as well as the open-end questions are asked.
The factual or meaningful interview was conducted that would relate to the academic and
professional context for our area of study. The qualitative methods are applied to conduct the
interview with the MD of a hospital in the UK. The experience of the respondents is listed in a
way that personal experience regarding the effective role or traits of the leadership in the
healthcare organization is managed (Alain, 2011). After that, the follow-up questions are asked
in order to ensure that findings of the interview are properly confirmed and recorded.
4
Leadership Role
Analyzing the detail of leadership role, the first parameter used in the methodology of
this interview is asking the respondent, which is MD of the hospital about the leadership role. As
The main role of the MD in terms of the leadership, traits is to make sure the hospital is meeting
the objectives which are set or mission of the hospital is achieving in the way while maintaining
the safety, health, and quality medical services by the management given to the customers. The
level of engagement, the range of involvement, and the abilities to make the key decisions in
order to run the hospital in a super effective are the utmost core responsibility of the MD in the
hospital. The leader must be influenced all the rest of the medical staff members from one's
actions or directing the instructions and then communicate them in the most effective way
(BENINCASA, 2012). This is the primary role of the leadership in hospital according to our
respondent, MD of a hospital.
Leadership Attributes
The three parameters that are sued to check the leadership attributes in a hospital
according to our respondent was hospital o organizational settings, the quality of medical
services delivered to the patients and the third or last parameter for checking the leadership
attributes in the hospital is effective management. The hospital organizational setting is the first
parameter for the measuring the leadership traits while management is controlled with the
integration to the hospital setting as an organizational culture so that the quality of medical
services is efficiently maintained. The managerial quality and the best practices for the safety
concerns in all the relevant departments in the hospital are reviewed through the quarterly system
of performance review (Bass, 1985). The report for the daily follow-ups of the tasks is sent to the
MD and that after the approval, all the prerequisite medical activities are taken place.

Leadership Traits
The traits like the visionary, intelligent mind, a bright wisdom, anticipatory in the
organizational goals and pre-planning for dealing with the complex situations both financially or
socially are included in the job description of the MD in UK hospital. The strategic setting of the
organizational goals is reviewed in a dynamic way as keeping the integrity maintained in using
all the internal resources as well as the external expertise to make the revenues of the hospital
growing despite the challenges in the external environment especially the technological latest
medical machines for the convenience of the patients.

The characteristics such as the courage to take the bold decisions in the certain
circumstances come ahead is the important thing according to the MD of a private hospital in the
UK or our respondent for this very interview. Since the hospital is a place where the people are
in the position or status of life or death so the planning session is carried out before making the
tough decisions in which the high level of risk is involved and most of the medical decisions for
the betterment of organization are right (Basu, 2014). The second most important thing in this
perspective is that the cooperation it the work unit in making changes the medical information
system, strategic innovation management or any other area of the organization. The key thing is
to take everyone as a collective unit while pulling them to achieve the shared goals of the
hospital.
7
Analyzing the type of organization, for conducting the interview we have chosen the
hospital or health care organization. Since this is a hospital or the medical service providing
organization, the traits of a leadership required in medical services are the focus of the
methodology of this interview conducted by the MD as the top-level position, in the private
hospital in the UK (Chand, 2012).
The structure of the organization is very flexible, as according to our respondent of the
interview, the rigid nature of organizational structure does not fit into the best practices of quality
medical services in this organization. The decision-making approach for the different sections of
the hospital is centralized or participation in which the workforce diversity is the major part of
the organization. It is the core belief of the organization that the ideas generated from the
propelling having a different set of the background would be very helpful in trade-off pattern for
the difficult situations.

Talking about phase about how the interview was carried, the pre-planning was done for
conducting this very interview in the private hospital in the UK, and the appointment was already
taken for conducting the interview. The mixtures of structured and unstructured question are
asked in this interview with using formal approach. Almost one hour of time was required for
conducting this interview. The open-end general response is taken from the respondent, which is
MD of a private hospital. The interview needs to be carried out in a quick session; therefore, the
open-end communication approach of the interview was used so that the analysis of the findings
of the interview would do in a more appropriate form (Cherry, 2000). Before conducting the
original interview, the rephrasing process was included as the necessary part of conducting an
interview for making the review of findings or results of the interview in an appropriate manner.

Results/Findings
The main outcomes of the interview that we have found that the person has we are interviewing
MD of a private hospital in the UK has all the desired potential that must be present in a true
leader in a healthcare organization. The new set of the leadership skills or abilities is the essential
tool to lead from the front this hospital as according to our respondent, MD of a private hospital
in the UK. The findings of this interview describe that to become a high or excellence performer
in a healthcare organization as a leader; the most important thing that one must need to possess is
the clear vision and not takes a side away even a single inch from your vision (Goodnite, 2011).
The communication of the ultimate goals, giving the required directions for disseminating the
instructions while achieving such organizational tasks in the hospital in this very case. Finally,
10
implementation of such medical instructions or strategists that would be confidently used by the
hospital is the key thing to become a successful leader in hospitals. The patients keep eyes on the
hospitals while judging how the hospital would treat following a different set of integrated
activities set by the top-level individual in a hospital. That is why it is very necessary for MD as
a leader of the organization to have clear and vision to fulfill the organizational objectives and
goals as a great leader.
The next finding or result of this interview that we have been able to analyze or recorded
after rephrasing training is that according to our respondent, the adopting of external changes as
per the dynamic capabilities as a necessary trait for the leader of the hospital. Te opportunity
must be sought in adopting the changes especially the technological advancements such as the
electronic record of the patients, latest machinery and the innovative ways of operational
efficiencies such as integration of the activities performed by the staff members, flexible working
hours and so on (BUJ, 2012). The changing's in the current scenario of the hospital are growing
at a great pace, to get aligned with the progressive world, the leader should be able to use it's
internal as well as external resources including the staff members, machines, tools, equipment
and the processes. It would need to manage in a so defined intelligent way that everyone in the
hospital would follow your footsteps and make the collective effort for accomplishing the shared
goals of the hospitals.
The next very important finding or result concluded from conducting this interview from
the MD of a private hospital in the UK is that there must be present of a characteristic of
influencing the other people from the set of attributes that one possesses in achieving the
objectives and goals through extraordinary command over controlling, leading and motivating
the people. The skill of how to move forward the vision of the hospital while using the
11
manpower in an efficient way and using the active mind of approach is one of the keys for an
MD in a hospital.
Discussion
The primary purpose of the conducting this interview was to analyze the role of the
leadership in a healthcare organization; therefore we have selected the MD of a hospital in the
UK as a very right person for conducting the interview. The results or findings of the interview
reveal that there is a clear difference of attributes between the characteristics of a leader and the
boss. A goof leader in a healthcare organization is able to take all the people working in the
organization together with a very enthusiasm approach whereas the boss in the healthcare
organization like this hospital in the UK dictates the terms and inspire the workforce with a fear
factor relatively reducing the productivity in a great way (Ecoggins, 2015).
Concerning literature, this interview has revealed many important things about the traits of
leaders' personality in a hospital, which is providing medical services to people of UK, as there
are four basic or key elements of a leader in this organization. The attributes of an MD as a role
of a leader highlights the significant subject of characteristics one possess in its personality to
lead from the front. This includes the situational analysis, leadership traits, follower mindset, and
the communication pattern. One should be able to know the one's personality and the nature of
the staff members to whom one is giving directions and knowing what type of organization one
is in charge of or controlling (Clinton Free, 2007). Therefore, it would be able for the leadership
role of this specific organization to direct the goals-settings in solving the situational complex or
rigid problems such as issues in ICU or emergency rooms.
12
The traits of leadership such as the ability of implementation right policies, strategies, rules or
procedures are one of the primary considerations in this regard. The next key finding is the
coordinating the medical staff members in a right direction or way, and the third perspective
from brilliant leadership traits is the supervising ability in a most dynamic way so that the
medical staff members at all the levels are influenced by you one way or the other.
The findings/ results of this interview while integrating the literature concepts revealed
that leader must comprise of the two-factor approach, which is the existence of the personality
traits, which counts for the personal reasoning, and the other one or most significant one is the
managerial traits. The personality includes the self-confidence, which is the ultimate thing that
should or must be present in a leader who is working in the hospital in the very important
position of MD and leading the entire organization (Alain, 2011). The skills such as ability not
too afraid, for taking necessary initiatives which are considered as innovative, the charisma to
influence the others, emotional intelligence characteristics, the effective pattern of interaction
and possessing dynamic attributes in one's personality. The managerial traits include such as for
the position of MD in a private hospital in the UK such as knowledge or information of the
capabilities or skills of human resources, the capabilities of administrative tasks handling, and
knowledge of technical things are essential ones.
Conclusion
In the end, it is concluded that it was a great learning experience while conducting the
interview from MD in a private hospital in the UK for knowing how important the traits or
attributes of a leadership role in running the entire organization. The open-end standard approach
is used as the methodology of this interview for analyzing the results in a more appropriate way.
The key findings/results of this interview define that a leader must have a broad sense of vision,
13
passionate about one’s job while knowing hidden aspects of the organization and awareness of
human resources in which administrative, technical knowledge are required. The skills of
dynamic communication with people and judging the situation while taking the innovative
initiatives through calculated risks must be present in a leader.
