Course Description
Physical Science exposes students to basic scientific
principles and concepts, introduces laboratory skills and
writing lab reports to students, and applies their critical thinking
and reasoning abilities in various scientific applications. Additionally, Physical Science includes
some training in basic algebra and math skills in preparation for more advanced mathematical
applications in future science classes.
Course Objectives
 To develop and use scientific inquiry to pose questions, seek answers, and develop
solutions.
 To understand and apply scientific concepts, principles, and theories pertaining to the
physical setting and living environment and recognize the historical development of ideas
in science.
 To have fun and enjoy the hands-on activities that we will be engaging in during the
class.
 To stimulate the minds of students and create an enthusiastic but sincere approach to the
learning of science.
 To challenge students to think critically about class material.
 To recognize problems both in the lab and in their environment, and develop skills to
possibly create solutions for some of the problems that exists both in today's environment
and other possible future problems.
Course Materials
The following materials should be brought to class everyday:
1. Textbook: Physical Science
2. Three ring binder, dividers, loose-leaf paper.
3. Lab book (will be discussed in class.)
4. Pen, pencil, calculator, coloring pencils, ruler

Students Responsibilities
Expectations: I expect that you will act like a mature, responsible and respectful adult to
me as well as your peers. In return I will do everything I can to prepare you with the necessary
knowledge and experiences for success with this course. It is also expected that you will:
 Accept and adhere to all school and classroom policies
 Maintain the highest level of academic honesty regarding assessments and lab activities
 Complete all assigned reading and homework prior to class
 Be an active participant in class by asking and answering questions
 Not play calculators or computer games and card games during class
 Follow all safety and laboratory procedures
 Be RESPECTFUL not only to my class and myself but to your peers and the other
faculty at Sequoia.
Furthermore:
 All students must consult with me prior to any planned absence (retreats, early-outs,
doctor’s appointments, etc.)
 Do not contact the counseling office if you need to get an assignment. You may email
me or contact your classmates.
