Youth Bureau What does this mean You have been interviewed by

Youth Bureau
What does this mean
You have been interviewed by the police about an offence that you have admitted
that you are guilty of.
A decision will now be made about what happens next…
What might happen next
Someone from the Youth Justice Service (YJS) will work with you to do an
assessment.
After this assessment a panel (a group of people working for the youth justice,
police and someone from the community) will make some decisions about what
happens next.
What happens next depends on the offence and how the victim/s feel, how you
take responsibility (are you sorry for what happened?) and how well you
engage with the youth justice service.
There are four things that could happen next, these are:
Out of court disposal (which means you will not need to go to court)
1. Non- criminal disposal
This is an informal resolution (low level outcome) which is not recorded on the
police national computer (PNC) but might show up on an enhanced disclosure
and barring service DBS check. As part of this you may be requested to
undertake some actions, which will be discussed with you and the victim. They
may include some of the following:- an apology to the victim, hours of work in
the community, compensation, or further work with Youth Justice or other
services that can help you.
2. Caution
You may be asked to take part in a programme of work with the youth justice
which will aim to stop you getting into trouble in the future. A caution may
show up on an enhanced disclosure and barring service DBS check and is
recorded on the police national computer (PNC).
3. Youth Conditional caution
As above, however you will be asked to complete work with the youth justice
service, which if you do not complete you may go to court for the original
offence.
Court disposal (meaning that you have to go to court)
4. Charge
You are charged with the offence which means that the police have decided that
the court is the best place to decide what happens to you.
What if I don’t do any of this
While the Bureau is assessing your case you may be on bail from the police. You
will need to answer this bail unless told not to.
If you don’t agree to the choices made by the bureau then you may be charged
and you will need to go to court. A court will then make a decision about what will
happen next.
If you don’t answer your bail then you can be arrested (not answering your bail is
an offence) you will then need to go to court.
