December 2008 - Radiography Clinical Procedure Survey Results Page 1 of 4 Purposes of Survey: (1) To identify those clinical procedures that are hardest to find for radiography students to achieve clinical competency on patients and the affect that this has had on clinical education and (2) To share this information with interested parties and obtain comments for determining the future direction of clinical education. Data Collection: On May 14, 2008 and July 30, 2008, questionnaires were mailed to all 16 Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners approved diagnostic radiography programs. The format of the questionnaire is identical to the form used below to record program responses. General Results: All 16 programs responded. 9 were College sponsored programs and 7 were Hospital sponsored programs. In total 36 procedures were identified as hard to find. How to read the responses: ARRT/Board Procedure Classification: M = Mandatory E = Elective. Board’s 2004 CBCE Requirements Using the ARRT’s 2005 “Radiography Clinical Competency Requirements” a total of 66 procedures are identified. 36 procedures are “Mandatory” and 30 are “Elective”. The ARRT and Board require all 36 “Mandatory” procedures to be evaluated for competency. Of which, a minimum of 28 must be on patients. The remaining procedures can be simulated. Additionally, of the 30 “Elective” procedures, 15 must be evaluated for competency. There is no set number of “Elective” procedures that must be performed on patients. avo-7186
