The object of the game is to win the pot by forming the highest ranked five-card Poker hand or have all the other Players surrender the pot to you by folding to your Bet (bluffing). In Texas Hold’em, Players may use any combination of seven cards to make the best five-card Poker hand. In Omaha, the only combination a Player may use is using two hole cards with three of the community (board) cards. How do I play? The Blinds Before a game begins, two Players need to place a ‘Blind Bet’. This is called a Blind Bet because the Players have Bet without seeing any cards. Once all Betting is complete for the river, if there is more than one remaining Player; the last Bettor or raiser shows his or her cards. The remaining Players then can either fold their hand or show their cards if they want to win the pot. The Player with the best five-card hand wins the pot. After the pot is awarded, a new game is ready to be played. Tips for new players New Players should familiarise themselves with the following before joining in; Keep in turn: Wait for the Dealer to prompt you. Acting before it is your turn causes confusion and is usually a disadvantage. Mobile phones: I-pods, calculators etc, may not be used at a Poker Table. The Dealer will create separate pots; side pots are created by those Players with more chips than another. The Flop String Bets: Players are required to make their Bets and or raises in one single motion. In turn, Players may either check, fold, Bet, call or raise depending on what action has occurred before them. Protect your hand: It is the Player’s responsibility to protect their cards from other Players, spectators and from being mucked accidentally. The use of card protectors is encouraged. All Players are then dealt their two private ‘hole cards’ (‘the initial deal’). After looking at his or her hole cards, each Player then has the option to play his or her hand by folding, calling or raising the big blind (‘the first Betting round’). Each Player must have Bet the same amount in each Betting round before the game can proceed. The Turn After the Betting action is complete for the flop, a fourth community card is dealt face-up on the board and another Betting round follows. The River After the Betting action is complete for the turn, a fifth community card is dealt face-up on the board and a final round of Betting follows.
