Rural Development ahead” 17 March 2017, Chisinau, International Exhibition Center “MOLDEXPO”, Central pavilion Discussion on How do you see the role of rural development for improving standard of living and working in rural areas in Moldova Rural areas takes the majority of the territory of Moldova and more than half of the population live in the countryside. In modern world, rural areas meet greater challenges then urban areas but at the same time have a great potential in terms of natural resources, cultural heritage and business opportunities. For overcoming the challenges and make use of the potential of rural areas, well designed and successfully implemented Rural Development Policy is needed, which shall be developed with the contribution of all stakeholders and implemented with the efforts of all parties. We consider the current round table as the beginning of a wide discussion on the role of the Rural Development Policy in Moldova, the instruments to be used and measures to be implemented for improving standard of living and working opportunities in rural areas in Moldova. During the upcoming discussion, we would like you to share your views on the following questions: What are the biggest challenges for development of rural areas in Moldova and the best opportunities they can offer for people to live and work? How the identified challenges and opportunities can be addressed with the aim to improve the standard of living and the working opportunities in rural areas? How does activities in the agricultural sector support and impede rural development?
