ROCKET STUDENT ATHLETES “AT A GLANCE” REPORTED BY CLASSMATES ON THE SPORTS INFORMATION TEAM Kalyn Rowe By Izabel Barry 27 September 2016 Kalyn Ashley Rowe could well end up being the best soccer manager this school has ever had the pleasure of being graced by. She was born on January 19, 2002 and grew up in Del City. She attended St. Philip Neri Catholic School for 11 years and graduated with Most Improved Student and received a monetary scholarship from St .Phillip Neri to attend Mount St. Mary’s. Managers are normally not recognized by many. They don’t do their jobs for attentionthey do it for the players. Kalyn is always there for those who need her. She always stands up for people and never hesitates to tell you what she thinks. She is an amazing person. She always overcomes any problem that she is faced with and finds a clever, unique way to solve them. One of my favorite things about Kalyn is that despite, if you are arguing or having troubles, she is always there for you and there to help you. Ryan Neighbors by Kaylyn Rowe 22 September 2016 Ryan Lynn Neighbors is a freshman football player. Ryan was an outstanding middle school athlete in all the sports he played. His family owns a successful business; Neighbor’s coffee in Oklahoma City. He stands just over 6’2 which helps him excel in his sports. In football he plays offensive guard and on defense plays defensive end. He is somewhat new to football but is showing great potential in the sport. You will always see Ryan surrounded by his friends and family inside school and outside school. He is a fun guy to be around alright but you can always count on him to have your back. He is a great athlete and also a great friend. Garrett Bocock by Izabell Barry 22 September 2016 Garrett Bocock is an outstanding student athlete who excels not only in football but in academics, especially in his foreign language class, Spanish. He came to The Mount this year as a freshman from Moore Brink. He is on the JV as safety and quarterback who helps the Varsity team get ready for their games. He is a very hard worker who can always be counted on. You will often find Garrett surrounded by his friends and always having fun with a smile on his face. Sean ‘Lippster” Lipps by Kollin Moseley 10 September 2016 Sean Lipps is a senior at Mount St. Mary. He is a rare breed of student athlete. He is a multisport athlete. Sean plays football, baseball and swimming. On the outside he looks like a regular student -athlete. But to get to know Sean you have to dive deeper into the ocean of emotions. Sean is a player fueled by passion and doubt. He reaches his full potential when he hears the word “can’t” or “incapable”. He feeds off the emotion of others around him as well as fuel the fire. He is the epitome of the collective attitude of the football team. Hungry with something to prove. He picks up his friends and teammates when they can’t seem to find the inner resolve to keep going. He is what it means to be a Mount student -athlete. Casey Lowry by Jacob Loflin 10 September 2016 Casey Lowry is the newest member to the Varsity football team. He transferred to The Mount in the middle of his sophomore year of high school. He plays center this year. He has also gone to 8 college camps to become a better long snapper. The coaches have been encouraged by Casey’s work ethic and performance. In an earlier game this year Casey had 4 pancake blocks . (Pancake blocks are where you hit the opposing player and he falls on his back ) Not only is he a solid football player but he is an even better student. Casey is the true definition of Rocket Pride. Lacey Wolf by Yareli Ruelas 10 September 2016 Lacey Wolf is a very athletic yet smart student. She is in National Honor Society but also plays soccer, track, and volleyball. Her soccer teammates describe her as funny, positive, but also a role model to others. She is an amazing attacking midfielder in soccer and she really tries to set up as many balls for her teammates to get the shots. She helps anyone on the field who needs it with a smile. She's a great friend, athlete, and student. She puts all the same amount of effort that she puts into school. Not only has that but showed Rocket Pride wherever she goes. She goes to the majority of the sports games to support her classmates. She always has a smile on her face when in the student section cheering her teammates on. Colton Cox by Will Politte 10 September 2016 Colton Cox is a sophomore at Mount St. Mary high school. This is his second year attending MSM. In his freshman year, Colton played basketball, football, as well as run track. He has played basketball since fourth grade and attended Rosary Catholic School before high school. This year, Colton just decided to stick with football and track because it was hard to balance all the sports as well as his school work. Because with Colton, school always comes first. He gets high school, he gets life. He knows what it means to be a Rocket and shows that every day. Either by “leading by example” or by putting a smile on other people’s faces. Colton, just like in his school work, puts other people before himself. He always does the right thing and never expects for someone to say thank you. Colton Cox is one of the most special students we have attending Mount St. Mary High School. He is a shining example of what it means to be a Rocket, as well as a student -athlete. Jose Franco By Sam Arteaga 10 September 2016 Jose Franco is a senior here at Mount St. Mary. Jose came to the Mount his junior year from Southeast High School. Jose loves the sport of soccer and is very talented and dedicated to it also. Last year Jose was not on the Varsity team because of his transfer which made him ineligible. Even though Jose was not on Varsity, he still gave the team all the support he could give. Jose was huge part of both teams, he always gave his best out on the field and always encouraged his team to work harder until the final whistle. The team is very excited to have Jose on the team next year because they know that he will play a big part in getting the team into the playoffs. Jose is a great leader, who loves his teammates and wants to improve himself so that he can play a part in driving the team forward and making the soccer team better. When you watch Jose play, you can see his dedication, his hustle and his desire to win. He never gives up on any play. He takes risks, he pushes himself to his limit, he bounces right back up when he falls and he is the perfect player any coach or teammate would want on their team. Jose is a perfect example of what a Rocket Athlete looks like. Gabby Aleman by Jill Ruhl 10 September 2016 Gabby Aleman is a star student athlete here at Mount Saint Mary. She brightens the days of all her friends and teachers. Being a great student and helping her peers in the classroom comes naturally to her. Gabby works hard not only in school, but in sports as well. She is a key player of the women's soccer team, and she leads her team to greatness each year. She also is a new member of the cheerleading team! Her cheerful attitude and loud school spirit make her a great new addition to the team. Gabby is a wonderful example of what it means to be a Rocket athlete. She makes her school proud each and every time that she steps on the field, or picks up her pom poms. Kate Smith by Aubrey Haddon 10 September 2016 Kate Smith is a junior here at Mount St. Mary. She is a starting player on the varsity volleyball team, and is a great student. Kate excels in everything she does. She always tries her hardest to achieve her goals and to make herself a better person and athlete. Kate is one of the most uplifting people I know. She will always make you smile or laugh when you are feeling down. She is a great teammate, friend and a fantastic person to represent Mount St. Mary Catholic High School. Yareli (Yaya) Ruelas by Sam Arteaga 10 September 2016 Before joining the Mount family, Yareli went to school at St. James Catholic School. Yareli is now a senior and plays as the libero on the MSM Varsity Volleyball team. Yareli is a big competitor and plays a big role on her team. If you have ever been to one of Yareli’s games, you can see her love for the game and energy on and off the court. Even when the team is down, she keeps her team alive and helps encourage her team to play harder so that they can come out on top with the win. She is always hustling and doing everything she can to get her team points and set her teammates up for kills. Yaya can make anything that seems impossible in volleyball possible, even if it means she has to execute a pancake dive to get to the ball to keep it alive. Aubrey Haddon Cohlmia, said, “Yareli is such a great friend to have on the team, but you always have to keep an eye out for her and for yourself, sometimes she’ll forget things, like her volleyball shoes.” Yareli is a kind hearted person that everyone loves. She is always happy and likes to get everyone involved and loves having fun. Yareli is a great student at the Mount, and is a perfect example of someone that lives the Mercy Values. Hailey Talbot by Kalyn Rowe 10 September 2016 Hailey Talbot is a freshman softball and basketball player, who is a bright and charming girl. She went to Saint Charles for her middle school years. She is a very smart and an intelligent girl who is very funny. Even though I only have known Hailey for less than a month, she has made a big impact on me. Anytime she is on the field she would be as serious as can be , but once she walks through the door into the classroom she is always smiling no matter what. If we get a ton of homework she is still smiling and laughing. Her teammates are one crazy group but they sure do make a great team. Hailey is very focused on both of these sports, especially softball which is going on right now. She is an easy person to get along with and she always shows her faith on and off the field. Hailey has very good grades. I have her in one of my classes and that girl can speak! A girl like Hailey is what colleges want and need. Even as a freshman her academic and her athletic skills are most likely to attract colleges. I can tell that she will have a bright future ahead of her. Andrew Wagner By Sean Lipps 10 September 2016 Andrew Wagner is one of the most respected men here at The Mount, and with his amazing attitude and respect he is backed by being an amazing swimmer. “Wags” as his friends usually call him by, is looking to go to State for the third time in a row and is also looking to place this year in the State Finals. “Wags” is a very active student here at the Mount, being involved in swimming and drumline. Wherever he goes Wags is always making an impact and making everyone smile. I know from personal experience that Wags is the type of guy that can make you laugh so hard that tears are coming out of your eyes. Wags also brings a fiery competitive nature in swim -always giving his all in meets and practices. He is someone who hates to lose and is always improving. Andrew Wagner is a great example of a Rocket student athlete.
