OWNERSHIP BIOGRAPHIES
JOSHUA HARRIS – OWNER/CHAIRMAN/GOVERNOR
Along with Co-Owner David Blitzer, completed the purchase of the New Jersey
Devils and its long-term operating interest in Prudential Center and related assets on
August 15, 2013. He also serves as Managing Owner and Governor of the NBA’s
Philadelphia 76ers, is a co-owner of the Premier League’s Crystal Palace FC and is a
co-owner of the Team Dignitas eSports franchise. In August 2014, was named The
Star-Ledger’s most influential individual – along with David Blitzer – in New Jersey
sports. Harris is the Managing Partner of Apollo Management, L.P., which he co-founded in 1990. He
graduated summa cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Economics and received his MBA from the Harvard Business School
where he was named a Baker and Loeb Scholar. Among other civic activities, Josh serves as a member
of The Federal Reserve Bank of New York Investors Advisory Committee on Financial Markets and
the Undergraduate Executive Board of The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Josh
has strong ties to northern New Jersey; his grandparents lived in Newark, while his father attended
Caldwell High School.
DAVID BLITZER – OWNER/VICE CHAIRMAN/ALTERNATE GOVERNOR
Along with Co-Owner Joshua Harris, completed the purchase of the New Jersey
Devils and its long term operating interest in Prudential Center and related assets on
August 15, 2013. He is also the Co-Managing Owner and Alternate Governor of
the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers, is a co-owner of the Premier League’s Crystal Palace
FC and is a co-owner of the Team Dignitas eSports franchise. He was named the
most influential individual in New Jersey sports – along with Joshua Harris – by
The Star-Ledger, August 2014. Blitzer is a Senior Managing Director and Co-Chair in the Private
Equity Group at The Blackstone Group and is a member of the firm’s Executive Committee. David is
based in New York following 10 years in London establishing Blackstone’s corporate private equity
business in Europe. Since joining Blackstone in 1991, David has been involved in the execution of its
investments in Spirit Group, SULO, Allied Waste, Aspen Insurance Holdings, Houghton Mifflin,
Universal Orlando, Centerplate, Cadillac Fairview, Edward J. DeBartolo Corporation, Southern Cross,
NHP, Orangina, United Biscuits and Jack Wolfskin. Blitzer graduated magna cum laude from the
Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and he currently serves as a Director of United
Biscuits and Jack Wolfskin. A native of Scotch Plains, NJ, David’s parents still live in the home that he
was raised in, while his grandparents also grew up in New Jersey.

RAY SHERO – EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT/
GENERAL MANAGER/ALTERNATE GOVERNOR
Completed second season as Devils’ general manager with a record of 28-40-14=70pts…Has a
66-76-22=154pts record through two seasons as New Jersey’s GM…Named fourth general
manager in team history May 4, 2015; has overall authority regarding all hockey decisions…A
member of the 2017 U.S. Men's National Team Advisory Group that competed at the
International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship from May 5-21 in Cologne,
Germany and Paris, France…Spent eight seasons, 2006-07 through 2013-14, as executive vice
president and general manager of the Pittsburgh Penguins…Named to post in May 2006 and turned the club into a
perennial playoff contender…During that time, the team compiled a 373-193-56 (.645) mark, won the 2009 Stanley Cup
Championship, two consecutive Eastern Conference titles in 2007-08 and 2008-09 and had three first-place divisional
finishes…Recipient of the General Manager of the Year Award in 2012-13, as voted on by the 30 NHL GMs, a panel of
NHL executives, as well as print and broadcast media…Previously spent 14 seasons as an assistant general manager with
the Ottawa Senators (1993-98) and Nashville Predators (1998-2006)…Actively involved with USA Hockey; is a member
of its National Team Advisory Board, and served as associate general manager for the 2014 Winter Olympic
Games…Also spent seven seasons as a player agent prior to making the transition to the front office…A forward, was
drafted by Los Angeles in the 11th round (216th overall) of the 1982 NHL Entry Draft…Played collegiately for four
seasons at St. Lawrence University (Canton, NY) and served as the team’s captain on two occasions…Led the school in
scoring twice, and graduated in 1984 as one of the top-ten scorers in Saints’ history…Son of the late Hockey Hall of
Fame Head Coach Fred Shero; Ray and his dad are one of the few father-son tandems to each have their names
engraved on the Stanley Cup…Fred served as the Devils’ radio commentator in the 1980’s…A native of St. Paul, MN;
Ray and his wife, Karen, have two sons: Chris, 21, who attends Boston College (HE) and Kyle, 19, who most recently
played for the Boston Jr. Bruins Selects (MHSL U18) and for Kimball Union Academy (NH).

TOM FITZGERALD – ASSISTANT GENERAL MANAGER/
GENERAL MANAGER, BINGHAMTON DEVILS (AHL)
Led the Albany Devils to second straight playoff appearance in second season as General
Manager of club’s AHL affiliate…A-Devils have record of 85-52-15=185pts under Fitzgerald’s
stewardship…Named Devils’ assistant general manager July 24, 2015…Began post-playing career
in 2007-08 when he joined Ray Shero’s staff in Pittsburgh as director of player
development…Named assistant coach on Feb. 15, 2009; was instrumental in helping Penguins
win the 2009 Stanley Cup Championship…In summer of 2009, was promoted to the position of
assistant to the general manager, where he served for five years… Promoted to assistant general manager of the
Penguins on June 6, 2014; a post he held until joining the Devils…Retired as an NHL player following the 2005-06
season; a forward, his pro playing career spanned 17 seasons in both the AHL and NHL…Posted 139 goals and 190
assists for 329 points and 776 penalty minutes in 1,097 career NHL appearances with the NY Islanders, Florida,
Colorado, Nashville, Chicago, Toronto and Boston…Added 7g-12a-19pts and 90 PIM in 78 career playoff games,
including a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals with the Panthers in 1996…Served as Predators’ team captain during each of
their first four seasons in the league…Saw action at the AHL level with both Springfield (‘88-89 & ‘89-90) and Capital
District (‘90-91 & ‘91-92)…Selected by the Islanders in the first round, 17th overall, of the 1986 NHL Entry
Draft…Represented Team USA at two World Championships (‘89 & ‘91), as well as the 1987 World Junior
Championships…Played two seasons, 1986-87 and 1987-88, at Providence College (HE)…Born August 28, 1968 in
Billerica, MA, Tom and his wife, Kerry, have four sons: Ryan, who made his professional debut for the Providence
Bruins this past season; Casey, who is a captain for Boston College and a Buffalo Sabres’ prospect, Jack and Brendan.
DAN MACKINNON – SR. DIRECTOR OF PLAYER PERSONNEL,
HOCKEY OPERATIONS
Joined organization June 27, 2016…Oversees all aspects of the club’s pro scouting operations;
works closely with the organization’s hockey operations and pro/amateur scouting staffs regarding
player evaluation, acquisition and draft preparation…Spent the previous 10 seasons (2006-2016)
with the Pittsburgh Penguins, including the last seven as director of player personnel; served in that
role for the 2016 Stanley Cup Championship team…Oversaw all the Penguins’ professional and
amateur scouting operations in North America and Europe…Director of Pro Scouting for
Pittsburgh when Penguins won the 2009 Stanley Cup; spent two seasons as director of professional scouting, and joined
the organization as a scout in 2006…From 2000-2006, was with the Nashville Predators where he worked with Ray Shero,
serving as a professional scout (four years) and scouting coordinator (two years)…Also worked in the league office for the
American Hockey League and for the Mississauga Ice Dogs (OHL)…Prior to pro career, MacKinnon served as an
assistant coach for Ohio University’s (ACHA) hockey team, where he worked to receive a master’s degree in Athletic
Administration…Played three seasons of Canadian college hockey, one with Mount Allison University (AUAA) in 199495 and two with the University of Waterloo (OUAA) from 1996-98…Named an Academic All-Canadian during his senior
season at Waterloo, 1997-98…Played junior hockey in Pembroke (CJHL, 1991-93) and Kingston (MetJHL, 1993-94)…43years-old, lives in Plymouth, MI with son, Will (17), who is a defenseman for the U.S. Nat’l Team Development Program
and was selected 10th overall in the 2017 USHL Entry Draft by the Des Moines Buccaneers and daughter, Maggie (15),
who is a competitive figure skater.

STEPHEN PELLEGRINI – VICE PRESIDENT, HOCKEY OPERATIONS
Completed 11th season with Devils and 26th year in National Hockey League; joined
organization in August 2006…Works closely with General Manager Ray Shero on all hockeyrelated matters, including contract negotiation/salary arbitration preparation, collective
bargaining agreement/salary cap compliance, scheduling and scouting…Also oversees hockey
administration in Albany (AHL); previously served in similar capacity in ECHL…Spent eight
seasons as group vice president of the NHL’s Central Registry Department (1998-2006), where
he served on the league’s CBA negotiating committee; duties included CBA rules and regulation
enforcement…Served the Edmonton Oilers as director of hockey administration from 1995 through 1998; originally
joined the NHL’s CR Department in 1991…Earned his graduate degree in sports administration from Montreal’s
Concordia University in 1991…Received his undergraduate degree in history from King’s College at The University of
Western Ontario…Upon graduation, worked in school’s registrar’s office while serving as assistant soccer coach…Born
in Sarnia, Ont.
PAUL CASTRON – DIRECTOR, AMATEUR SCOUTING
Entering third season with Devils’ organization; named to post July 31, 2015…Oversees all
aspects of the club’s amateur scouting operations…Joined club after spending the previous
16 seasons with the Columbus Blue Jackets, including the last nine as director of amateur
scouting…Was promoted to that position July 21, 2006 and built a talented pool of young players
considered among the most respected in the league…Was previously named the Blue Jackets’
director of player development in 2002, where he managed the progress of the team’s prospects,
including those at the minor league level…First joined Columbus in 1999-00 as an amateur
scout…He also served the Ottawa Senators as an amateur scout for eight years, 1991 to 1999…Played professionally at
the minor league level and in Europe, including four years as a player/coach in Sweden prior to joining the Senators’
staff…Spent four seasons collegiately, 1981-82 through 1984-85, at St. Lawrence University (ECAC), where he totaled
56g-86a-142pts and 135 penalty minutes in 131 career games, and earned a degree in sociology…Born May 23, 1962 in
Toronto, Ont…Paul and his wife, Terri, reside in Michigan, and are the proud parents of twins Kuper and Madison.
GATES ORLANDO – ASSISTANT DIRECTOR, AMATEUR SCOUTING
Named to current post September 8, 2016…Assists Paul Castron in all aspects of draft research
and preparation, including building the organization’s draft list each year…Has been a part of
the organization for the past 15 seasons, the last 13 in a scouting capacity on both the pro and
amateur levels…Served as an assistant coach in Albany (AHL) in 2002-03 and 2003-04…Played
over 650 professional hockey games in the NHL, AHL, Italian League and Swiss
League…Played in 98 NHL regular-season contests with Buffalo from 1984-1987, scoring 18
goals and 26 assists for 44 points and 51 penalty minutes…Served as captain for Italy in the
1999 IIHF World Championship in Norway…Was selected by Buffalo in the eighth round, 164th overall, in the 1981
NHL Entry Draft…Played four seasons at Providence College (ECAC) from 1980 to 1984; scored 93 goals and 117
assists for 210 points in 129 games.

JOHN HYNES – HEAD COACH
Completed second season as New Jersey’s Head Coach; team registered 28-40-14=70pts…Served as Head Coach of
the 2016 U.S. Men's National Team that finished fourth at the International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World
Championship in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Russia…Was an assistant coach for United States’ 2016 World Cup of
Hockey squad…Introduced as the 17th head coach in Devils’ history June 2, 2015 in press conference at Prudential
Center…Joined organization after spending the previous six seasons with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL), including
five years, 2010-11 through 2014-15, as head coach…During that time, led Penguins to 231-126-10-17 (.637) mark,
including five straight 40-plus victory campaigns…Guided WBS to five consecutive playoff berths, including backto-back AHL Eastern Conference Finals appearances in 2012-13 and 2013-14…His teams allowed the league’s
fewest goals in four of the five years he served as head coach…In first season behind the Pens’ bench, was named the 2010-11 Coach of the
Year after finishing with the AHL’s best record at 58-21-0-1=117pts…Served as co-coach of the Western Conference at league’s mid-season AllStar Game in 2010-11…Became second-fastest coach in AHL history to reach the 100 career-wins mark, doing so in just 152 games…In second
round of the 2013 Calder Cup Playoffs, Pens became first team in league history to overcome a 3-0 deficit by winning games six and seven on
the road….Originally joined organization as an assistant coach in 2009-10…Spent six seasons, 2003-09, as head coach of USA Hockey’s National
Development Program, posting an overall record of 188-131-16-10…Led U.S. Under-18 national team to three medals at the World Under-18
Championships, winning the Gold in 2006, Silver in 2004 and Bronze in 2008…Served as an assistant coach on the U.S. squad that won Gold at
the 2004 World Junior tourney…Worked as an assistant coach with Wisconsin (WCHA) in 2002-03, USNTDP-18 in 2001-02 and UMass-Lowell
(HE) in 2000-01…Began coaching career as a graduate assistant at Boston University (HE) under legendary Coach Jack Parker…A forward,
spent four seasons at B.U., including four straight NCAA Frozen Fours, and was a member of the Terriers’ 1995 NCAA Championship

Completed second season with Devils’ organization; named to current post June 17, 2015…Served as an
assistant coach for Germany at the 2017 IIHF Men’s World Championships…Spent 2014-15 with Adler
Mannheim of the German Ice Hockey League; selected as coach of the year while leading Eagles to the
championship…Coaching career spans over 25 years, including seven seasons (2007-08 through 2013-14)

Entering first season with Devils’ coaching staff and the 19th campaign coaching at the NHL level…Was
named to post on July 8, 2017 after serving as the goaltending coach of the Vancouver Canucks for seven
seasons from 2010-11 through 2016-17…This past year he served in a player development capacity in
Utica (AHL), as he took time off to return home to be with his family…Before his stint in Vancouver,
Melanson was an assistant coach with the Montreal Canadiens for 11 seasons, 1997-98 to 2008-09…He
also was a goaltending/assistant coach with Moncton (QMJHL) from 1995 to 1997, and was a
goaltending consultant with St. John (AHL) from 1993 to 1995…Among the goaltenders Melanson has
