Task 14: Coaching Programme Two
This task requires you to complete all of the following four sections in relation to a
badminton coaching programme that you are responsible for:
1
2
3
4
Player Analysis
Programme Planning
Coaching Delivery
Programme Evaluation
Templates are provided to support the completion of this task in a paper-based format
within Learner Pack Part Four and also in an electronic format contained on the CD supplied
with this qualification. However, if you wish to use ones that you may be more familiar with,
then please discuss this option with your assessor, who will ensure your templates will
provide full coverage of the qualification criteria. Place all supporting evidence, in order,
alongside this task.
1 Player Analysis
a
Complete a registration and analysis form with the player you plan to coach. This
should provide valuable information about the health, safety and well-being of your
player, along with an indication of what their motivations are when taking part in
badminton.
b
Create a player profile, which should include information on current player
performance levels, compared against identified performance benchmarks (as identified
by your governing body).
c
Discuss the outcome of the player profile with your player then produce and agree a
player development action plan that outlines the following (as a minimum):





goal(s) (in priority order)
proposed action plan
support required
date for review
comments at review. (This is to be completed at the end of this task.)
2 Programme Planning
a
Using information gained from the completion of earlier sections within this task,
produce and agree an annual coaching programme with your player. The annual
coaching programme should identify the following (as a minimum):








goals of the coaching programme
competition dates and priority
timing of testing and evaluation of the coaching programme
different phases within the programme
different mesocycles within the programme
different microcycles within the programme
an indication of training volume, intensity and anticipated performance level
use of specialists (if required).
b
Produce a detailed eight-week coaching plan, associated with a chosen aspect of the
planned annual coaching programme (above).
c
In association with the chosen eight-week coaching plan (above), produce the more
detailed weekly plans. Include all coaching sessions and training sessions that the
player takes part in (including school practices, if appropriate).

3 Coaching Delivery
a
Complete a venue risk assessment for each venue/facility that you plan to use for your
coaching sessions. This should be completed prior to the use of that facility.
b
Before undertaking any coaching sessions, ensure the safety of the activity area(s) by
completing a safety checklist.
c
For every session within the chosen eight-week plan that you will deliver to your player,
produce detailed individual session plans (a minimum of eight plans are required,
although more could be produced as part of that eight-week section of the
larger programme).
d
During the delivered sessions, complete an on-court observation and analysis
form. This form helps to break down observations of player movement and analyse
areas for development.
e
After the delivery of each individual coaching session, complete a session evaluation.
These evaluations require you to review the following:



your organisation and management of the coaching environment
content of the session
your coaching styles.
4 Programme Evaluation
a
After you have delivered the eight-week plan, complete a player re-profile to identify
progress made against original goals and action plans agreed earlier within this task.
(Refer back to the original player profile and update the comments section on progress
made.)
b
Having now delivered the programme and evaluated player progression, conduct a
coaching programme evaluation based all aspects completed throughout this task.
This evaluation should look at:








planning
adaptations
problems and solutions
coaching practice
performance of others
effectiveness of programme
what went well and what didn’t
changes if you were to approach this task again.

Diagram to Illustrate the Breakdown of the Programme Planning Section
Develop an annual
coaching programme
that is split into
different phases (eg
preparation,
competition and
transition).
Identify a section of
this programme and
provide a more
detailed breakdown
(eg eight weeks).
This could include
one phase or
multiple phases.
Continue to break
this down further
to provide even
more detail on a
week-by-week
basis.

Feedback and Action Plan
The Feedback and Action Plan should be used by tutors and assessors to provide learners
with constructive feedback on how well they have performed during the course. The form
also allows for the development of an action plan that supports learners in both the
achievement of the qualification and the ongoing development of coaching practice
post-course.
