The North Texas Home Builders Association is looking for

North Texas Home Builders Association Scholarship Fund
General Description
The North Texas Home Builders Association will award scholarships to students pursuing a degree or
appropriate certification in fields related to and supportive of building trades/construction industries.
This includes, but is not limited to general construction, electrical, plumbing, heating and air
conditioning, architecture, surveying, engineering and welding.
Each recipient must be enrolled as a full-time student starting the fall semester of the year in which the
scholarship is awarded.
Applicants must be a student in good academic standing and have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0
scale. Students who are currently enrolled in the program or students graduating from high school can
make application for scholarship.
Individuals previously awarded this scholarship may reapply, but priority is given to first time
applicants.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must be a resident of Wichita, Archer or Clay County in the state of Texas.
Applicants must enroll as a full-time student as determined by the educational institution in which they
attend.
Applicants must enroll for the fall semester for the year in which the scholarship is awarded.
Applicants must pursue an associate degree or certification in a field related to building
trades/construction industry.
Applicants must receive a high school diploma from an accredited high school in Wichita, Archer or
Clay County in the state of Texas to receive the scholarship award. A student receiving a GED is also
eligible for scholarship funds. Acceptance from a certified trade school program also qualifies a
student for scholarship consideration.
Applicants must submit a letter of recommendation from a school official (teacher, counselor or
administrator); a letter of personal reference; a letter of recommendation from an employer or work
supervisor (if applicable); and a copy of the high school or college transcript.
Selection and Award of Scholarship
Selection criteria
The criteria used to evaluate applications for award will be based equally upon the following:
*Applicants residence in eligible counties.
*Intent to pursue a trade or degree related to building trades/construction industry.
*Aptitude toward these related fields as demonstrated through academic achievement in
related courses, vocational student organization involvement and work history where
applicable.
*Ability to communicate clearly defined personal goals in a career related to or supporting
building trades/construction industry.
*Leadership demonstrated through participation in extracurricular activities and community
involvement.
Scholarship Award
The stipend will be paid directly to the respective student account at the institution the student is or
will be attending upon verified enrollment. Or, the stipend can be paid directly to the recipient by
presenting an invoice from the respective school along with proof of enrollment.
The scholarship may be applied toward the cost of tuition, fees, books, tools, and/or other needs
associated with a student’s education in the selected field.
Stipulations
Upon accepting the scholarship, the student agrees to remain enrolled on a full-time basis (minimum
of 12 college credit hours or the required trade school training), attend classes regularly and maintain a
satisfactory academic standing.
The recipient must allow their name to be published in the local newspapers.
In order to be considered for this scholarship, complete application packets must be postmarked by
May 1, 2014.
