Administrative Report to the
Governing Council
December 14, 2016
Teacher evaluations
All observations that were done in November and December are complete. Only seven teachers
were observed this round. The next one will be done before May for all teachers. I’m attending
a workshop Thursday afternoon to verify teacher assignments. This has been an ongoing issue
for public school teachers in NM. Several of our teachers had incorrect student counts assigned
to them which impacted their 2015-16 evaluation. We are in the inquiry process with the few
that impacted the teachers’ final score.
Flag Pole is in
LGE construction installed our flag pole this weekend. We’ll have a ceremony on Friday
morning at 10 am to inform students of the importance of this pole. The VFW will officiate and
CVCS student, Elias Zheng, the VFW’s Patriot Essay winner will read his essay.
Chrome Books to be ordered
Twenty Chrome Books and a chrome book cart will be ordered this week. The new devices will
be given to the middle school and old ones passed on to the second grade.
NEWSELA Pro subscription started
Teachers in 2nd to 8th grade now have access to news articles at different levels from various
publishers through NEWSELA. This programs provides thousands of articles on all content area
subjects with opportunities for teachers and students to interact and annotate in the text. Several
teachers were using the 30 Day free version quite effectively already.
January 2nd
Teachers will be at school for trainings and working on report cards January 2nd. This is a
contract day.
Upcoming Assessments
Our 8th grade has been selected to take the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP)
on March 2nd. This is a part of the Nation’s Report Card. Students will either take the
Mathematics or Reading portion of the test. Most will do this on NAEP provided electronic
notebooks, but a few will take it pencil/paper.
K-2 teachers will do the Middle of the Year (MOY) reading assessment January 9th to 18th.
Maestra Armijo will test our 8 English Language Learners with a new version of the test in late
January.
We’ll set the dates for PARCC and our SBA Science for 4th and 7th grade at our teacher work day
on January 2nd. This year we also have the states End of Course Exams (EOC) at the end of the
year as well. PE, Social Studies, Art will be tested as well as any other areas teachers decide
they would like assessed.
Tutoring to begin in January
We have at least 6 staff members that are applying to tutor with Three Rivers Foundation’s
Building a Community that Supports Children’s Reading ( BCSCR). We have 34 students signed
up for this after school program that provides two 1 hour sessions each week of small group
reading. Students were selected on a needs basis.
GC Retreat Date?
Several teachers were interested in participating in the GC retreat after school rather than on
Friday. With the new tutoring program this may be difficult. The GC should decide upon a date
soon.
Parent Survey
We will send out our annual survey by the end of the month. This survey is a part of our charter.
Fab School Lab Winner???
We hope to hear from Northrop Grumman Foundation on December 12th, the winners of their
Fab School Lab competition for our science needs. We had a tremendous outpouring of support!
