Hello February Yoga Every week Karen Clark

APPLERIDGE CORE
Hello February
FEBRUARY 2017
Mardi Gras
The Appleridge community will gather with
friends and neighbors to celebrate this
exciting midwinter holiday. The Mardi Gras
festivities will kick off with an afternoon of
fun games and thought provoking trivia
with a little history.
The amazing vivid colors, delightful dishes
and flavorful drinks will keep everyone in
good spirits followed by the annual
crowning of the Appleridge King, Queen
and Jester of 2017.
Cinderella
Yoga
Every week Karen Clark-Romans
leads a forty-five minute yoga
session at Appleridge. This yoga
class can be adapted to each
resident’s ability and can include
seated chair yoga as well as
standing yoga.
Yoga has been shown to improve
overall health, prevent and even in
some cases reverse disease when
practiced regularly as a lifestyle.
With this in mind, it’s no surprise
that it can therefore lend its
benefits to those with mobility
issues. The aim is to work with
your body rather than against it
ruling out any competitiveness,
which can lead you to push
yourself too far and do yourself
harm. Forms
+ of stretching, breathwork, meditation, and of course
yoga poses will be implemented
during this class.
Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella is the Tony
award-winning Broadway musical from the
creators of The Sound of Music and South
Pacific, that’s delighting audiences with its
contemporary take on the classic tale. On
Tuesday, February 21st residents will visit the
Elmira Clemens Center to experience this highly
regarded production, that has an incredible
orchestra, jaw-dropping transformations and all
the moments you love—the pumpkin, the glass
slipper, the masked ball and more.
Be transported back to your childhood as you rediscover some of those
most beloved songs, including “In My Own Little Corner,” “It’s Possible”
and “Ten Minutes Ago,” in this hilarious and romantic Broadway
production for anyone who’s ever had a wish, a dream … or a really great
pair of shoes.
National Love Your Pet Day
Appleridge is a pet friendly community
with a variety of animals dwelling
under one roof. The beloved pets of
Appleridge are just as much a part of
the community as the residents.
The community celebrates National
Love Your Pet Day this month and our
furry and feathered friends will receive
some pampering and extra attention.
All resident pets are offered a mini photo shoot and residents will be
provided with a keepsake photo to commemorate the special day.

Sweet Treat
The Recreation Department will host a
meeting for residents who may have
questions, comments and programming
ideas to offer. This is an opportunity for
residents to become familiar with the
programs that are currently offered,
upcoming events and outings and how we
can develop new programs to better suit all
residents.
SPCA
Snuggle up with the Horseheads SPCA’s most
adorable pets. The SPCA will visit twice a
month with their cuddly and irresistible pets
that are looking for a forever home.
Appleridge will debut a new ice
cream bar cart this month
featuring an assortment of
sweet ice cream treats
complementary to all residents.
Keep your eyes peeled for the
ice cream bar cart in the main
lobby and delivery is available
to c-wing residents.
Super bowl LI
Are you ready for some football? Superbowl LI
is scheduled for Sunday, February 5th. The big
game will be held at Reliant Stadium in
Houston, Texas.
Residents at Appleridge can tune in to watch the
big game together decked out in their team
colors, ready to cheer. All the traditional party
favorites will be provided with plenty of pizza,
wings and beer for everyone.
Finger Lakes
Boating Museum
Valentine’s Day
In 1996 a small group of dedicated
antique boating enthusiasts,
motivated in part by a common
concern over the rapidly dwindling
population of locally-built wooden
boats, committed to establishing a
museum that would preserve the
boating heritage of the Finger Lakes
Region of New York State.
Appleridge residents will tour the
museum, which is located just
outside the village of
Hammondsport.
The museum resides within the
historic Taylor Wine building, with
three floors within that include
canoes, rowboats, row outboards,
sailboats and numerous artifacts.
“If life can remove someone you never
dreamed of losing, it can replace them
with someone you never dreamt of
having.”
Our community creates a perfect setting
for Valentine’s Day celebrating the love of
friends, family and neighbors. Residents
will start the day with a delicious pancake
breakfast and enjoy a splendid afternoon
of love stories, poetry, and chocolate.
