General and Administration
Registration 2016/17 and Whole Game System (WGS)
As you know all County FAs across the country are now using the WGS system.
Registration for next season will be open from April 1st 2016 up to June 1st 2016.
Please remember that after June 1st an extra £8 administration fee will apply.
CRC (formerly CRB) MUST be up to date. If you’re NOT sure contact Craig Grundy or James Bell –
YOU CANNOT Referee any game with any under 18 players involved if you do not have an up to
date CRC.
In order to referee in youth football (U18 and below) next season, you must make sure that your
CRC is in date.
Referees whose CRC requires updating have been contacted by James Bell via email. If a referee fails
to update their CRC, when required to do so, they will not be allowed to register for next season.
Once you have submitted your online application you must contact James Bell
([email protected] ) in order to arrange an appointment to get your forms of ID verified at
one of the evenings organised at the County FA offices below;
Wednesday 24th February (5pm to 7.30pm)
Monday 7th March (5pm to 7.30pm)
Thursday 10th March (5pm to 7.30pm)
Tuesday 22nd March (5pm to 7.30pm)
Monday 4th April (5pm to 7.30pm)
When booking please indicate your preferred date and time (slots available at 10 minute intervals)
as well as your Full Name, FAN number, Email Address and Contact Number.

Retention
Re- registration tickets 2016/17
Sheffield & Hallamshire County FA are extremely pleased that the 5 Professional Clubs from the
County FA region will once again be offering 2 tickets to matches for any Referee who registers
before 1st June, 2016.
Please let Craig or James know which is your preferred club during the registration process.
At the start of the new season we will have further information regarding the fixtures which tickets
will be available for.
If you would like further information or encounter any problems registering please contact Craig or
James.
Promotion Applications 2015/16
You are reminded that promotion applications for season 2016/17 must be in as soon as possible
and the cut-off date for applications is 1st June 2016.
L7-6, L6-5, L5-4 promotion candidates should email their intentions to Craig Grundy at
[email protected]
Promotion Seminars 2016/17:
Level 7-6 – Thursday 30th June and Monday 18th July
Level 6-5 – Wednesday 6th July and Tuesday 26th July
Level 5-4 – Monday 8th August
Fitness Tests (ONLY for level 5 to 4 promotion applicants):
Monday 4th July – Mount St Mary’s College
Thursday 28th July – Mount St Mary’s College
Please make a note these dates if you are applying for promotion.
Promotion Fees 2016/17:
Please note that every candidate promotion that is processed by the CFA is at a cost of £20.00.
However, providing a candidate completes the whole promotion process, whether he/she is
successful or not, then the County FA will pay the individual’s registration for the following season.
If an individual does not complete the process, then their registration fee will not be paid.

Training and Development
The next meeting of the Referees’ Development Programme will be held on Monday 7th March at Ice
Sheffield. Members of the development group (open to anyone who wants to advance/improve)
need to confirm their attendance or otherwise to Craig Grundy.
Fitness
Our first session of the year will be on Thursday 7th April – the week after the clocks change so we
will have some light! The sessions will run every Thursday at Don Valley Bowl (adjacent to Ice
Sheffield, S9 5DA), from 6pm to 7.15pm. The cost is, “nowt”, as we say in Yorkshire.

REFEREE CONFERENCE - HINCKLEY LEICSTERSHIRE, SATURDAY JULY 16th
The annual referee conference takes place on Saturday July 16th at Hinckley Hotel Leicestershire.
The Sheffield & Hallamshire CFA will support a contingent to represent the County in this very
informative and enjoyable, mainly workshop event.

MENTORING
Over the past 3 months the County FA has held 3 Mentor Workshops in conjunction with Rotherham
RA, Sheffield RA and the Referee Development Programme officials. For anyone who wants to offer
their support and guidance to prospective new or existing referees please contact James Bell for
further details.

Name: Peter Bailey Age: 59 years, Young and still feeling fit.
Birthplace: Conisborough near Doncaster
School: Northcliffe Comprehensive – Where Peter returned some years later to become Caretaker
for a number of years.
What is your occupation? I have worked for NHS at Doncaster for over 16 years as a porter
Refereeing
Level of referee – Level 5 and very happy still enjoying it.
I Referee in the Mexborough Sunday League and the Sunday Doncaster Senior League; I’ve also
officiated in the North East counties League.
District Association: Member of Mexborough RA
How long have you been refereeing? I have been Refereeing for over 25 years
Why did you become a referee?
A lot of my friends were Referees (Mick Wildeman who actually passed away in my house, Brian
Hardman, and Steve Venables) and they were constantly telling me to get involved in Refereeing, so
I eventually took refereeing up, something I’ve never regretted.
What do you consider to have been the most important game you have officiated?
I’ve been fortunate to have refereed the Montague Cup final on two occasions, which has been a
great experience and honour.
Who do you consider to have been the biggest influence on your career to date and why?
Without doubt the one who was always there and guided and advised me was Steve Venables, if I
had any problems Steve would always be the one to give encouragement and support.
What did you hope to achieve when first qualifying as a referee and do you have any further
aspirations within refereeing?
Just wanted to enjoy it and I have continued to enjoy it, as long as I feel fit enough to carry on I will,
I’ve always given my best, I would love to referee a game at one of the big stadiums in our area
What can you remember from taking your Referee Course?
It was some years ago, and I had to go to Doncaster where it was very much like a school method
where you sat behind a desk and read the book, boring, infact I failed the exam but asked for a re sit,
which I then passed
What do you consider to be your greatest achievement in refereeing so far?
I refereed the Doncaster & District Cup final a few years ago which i really enjoyed; the game went
so fast I couldn’t believe it.
What’s the most embarrassing or funny thing that’s happened in your Refereeing career so far?
A few things have happened that was embarrassing, I dropped my whistle during a game, I got out
on the pitch and discovered I’d left my whistle in the changing room, But the worst incident was
when the cord in my shorts snapped and my shorts dropped to my knees in front of a fair few
people.
If you could change anything in football what would it be?
I think the Disciplinary action taken against players isn’t strong enough; inevitably they are the ones
who re offends time after time. The Game doesn’t need players like that.
What football team do you support?
I’m a Big Manchester United fan, used to have a season ticket years ago. The Best, Law and Charlton
era. But I also support Donny Rovers.
Who is your sporting idol?
Split between Ian Botham for his great Test achievements and Georgie Best whom I watched from
him being a young kid.
What hobbies do you have?
Football and used to play a lot of squash, but I love just about all sports + Karaoke
What is your favourite food?
I love the good old Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pud.
What is your favourite holiday destination?
No doubt Cyprus (Pathos), we were married there 2 years ago, and are returning this year as it brings
back so many happy memories. We just love holidays and enjoy Spain for the weather
Who are your favourite artist, band or Music?
I love all the 70’s 80’s Music, my Karaoke rendition of Elvis’s ‘’wooden heart’’ is well worth seeing

If you could meet any person in the world from the past or present, who would it be?
Peter at this point said that he couldn’t think of anyone off hand until his good lady entered the
room and over heard him, at which point she had no hesitation in telling him it was ‘’Alex Ferguson’’
Ah Yes he said, she knows me better than I know myself, earlier Peter had told me his wife ‘’cleans’’
his boots after every game!!! He has a wife in a million; we ALL want a Mrs Peter Bailey.
If you could do any job in the world, what would it be?
I would have loved to play Professional Football or Cricket, especially for England
