TIP OF THE MONTH
Coaches
OFF-CAMPUS RECRUITING
OLD RULE:
There shall be a limit on the number of coaches who may be employed by an institution
and who may contact or evaluate prospective student-athletes off-campus at any one
time in each sport (as designated under 11.7.4)
NEW RULE (Sports Other than Football) Effective August 1st
The limit on the number of off-campus recruiters shall be identical to the NCAA/Ivy
limit on the number of coaches (excluding graduate assistant coaches, undergraduate
assistant coaches, and volunteer coaches) who may be employed by an institution in
each respective sport. (Ivy VIII-B-2, NCAA 11.7.4)
NEW RULE (Football) Effective August 1st
There will be an Ivy limit to off-campus recruiters. Of the 10 coaches who may contact
or evaluate prospective student-athletes off-campus, only 8 coaches may be off-campus
recruiting. At no time may all 10 coaches be out AND engaged in recruiting. The
remaining two coaches may not go out recruiting until replaced by coaches coming back
to campus. (VII-G-11-c(1))
EXCEPTION (Football Only):
10 coaches may be off campus on the same day, if only 8 individual coaches are
recruiting on that day.
EXAMPLE (Football Only):
A, B, and C go out in the morning and D replaces C in the afternoon – this can happen
as long as C returns to campus prior to resuming recruiting activities. (original rule)
All 10 coaches may be away from campus, and no one has to return to campus before
recruiting again if he/she has been replaced, so long as only 8 coaches engage in
recruiting on any given day. While all 10 coaches may be away from campus and no
one has to return to campus after being replaced, only 8 individuals per day may
conduct off-campus recruiting activities. (exception to the original rule)
