Practice Schedule
Practices are scheduled twice a week beginning in mid-October until CYO league games begin on
November 19th/20th. Once games begin, teams will practice once during the week with games on
the weekends. The practice schedule is set by the Practice Manager. (see ‘Key Contacts’ tab on
website).
The gyms are generally in use 100% of our allotted time. No team may have extra or
make-up practice time without permission. If you switch your practice time with another coach or do
not plan on practicing in a given week, please notify the Practice Manager. If you do not use your
slot, your practice time will likely be put to good use by another team.
Please respect the coach in front of you and after you by keeping your kids off the court, except for
your allotted time. Pre and post-practice stretching, team meetings, etc., should be done off the
court… in the lobby vestibules or team rooms.
Gym Management Procedures & Info - Overview
We need the help of all coaches in managing our gyms. If the gym is not open upon arrival, the
coach should sign-out the key card from the rectory (use the back door rectory entrance nearest the
Grammar school). After opening the gym door, the coach should immediately return the key card to
the rectory. There is one key card for both the Doty and Grammar School gyms.

Coaches should not send children to pick up or drop off gym keys.

Let the Facilities Manager (see ‘Key Contacts’ tab on website) know if there is someone in the
gyms that you do not recognize. No one may have any coaching involvement with the kids at
practices or games unless they are a coach designated by the Resurrection CYO Board and
certified by the Archdiocese. We are all bound by a strict set of guidelines on this issue.

It is incumbent upon coaches to make sure the gyms are buttoned-up after they are used. Get
your teams involved - the kids should pick after themselves. The gym has to be spotless for
school the following morning!

Please report anything unusual to the Facilities Manager (see ‘Key Contacts’ tab on website).
This includes torn nets, broken scoreboard/clock, blown out bulbs, missing keys, open
doors/windows that should have been locked when you arrive, slippery floor, backboards pulled.
Please don't think someone else will correct it. We need to know about it to correct it.
2
Gym Procedures Specific to Grammar School Gym
Opening:
The Grammar School door, once opened, will lock again when closed. For kids who arrive late, the
door can be propped open temporarily. We will no longer use an allen wrench to adjust the door.

The GS scoreboard console, medical kit, and ice packets are located in the CYO bins on the
stage. Please handle the scoreboard console with care. The scoreboard on/off switch is
located in the near right corner as you enter the gym.

Heat & A/C controls are located in the left stairway leading up to the stage. The gym gets hot
quickly so please do not set the heat too high (65 degrees max).

All players need to wear basketball shoes. Please, no dirty sneakers in the gyms. (the younger
kids especially aren’t aware of this.)
Gym Close-Up:

The coach with the last practice/game of the day should turn off the lights, the scoreboard, the
heat, and close all windows.

Lock the outside doors. No matter what, the last coach has to ensure the doors are
locked!)
Gym Procedures Specific to Doty Gym

To reduce dirt coming into the gym, basketballs (of every size) are in the ball racks so your kids
do not have to bring their own balls. During games, the ball racks need to be put away in the
storage room.

Access: Once you gain access to the Doty Gym, the doors immediately to your right will be
locked as it is important to minimize grit/dirt coming off the parking lot. Please go straight into
the vestibule past the desk, then turn right to enter the Doty gym.

All players need to wear basketball shoes. Please, no dirty sneakers in the gyms. (the younger
kids especially aren’t aware of this.)

Players should use downstairs bathrooms.

Folding chairs are not allowed In the Doty Gym.
3

Shades in team rooms must be in open view position.

Scoreboard console, medical kit and ice packs are located in the storage area behind the main
basket. Let us know if you need help using the Daktronics scoreboard during
practices/scrimmage.

The control for the center court drop-down curtain is behind the scoreboard table. Turn the key
clock-wise or counter-clockwise to raise or lower the curtain. The curtain is great for teams that
practice together in the gym. The kids don’t get distracted by the other team, and it also cuts
down the noise.

The controls to raise / lower the Doty gym baskets are located in the gym office. The controls
are not intuitive. If you need instructions, please contact the Facility Manager. Baskets are to
be set to “game-day” settings for CYO play. The side baskets should be in “up” position all
weekend.

Sound system: The sound system is only to be used with prior approval. Please email the
Facilities Manager.

Lights: please leave the lights on when you leave and the cleaning crew will turn them
off. Please - do not touch the breaker panel.
Uniforms, Game Balls & Scorebooks
Coaches will receive an email from the Uniform Manager in early November. You will be asked to
check with your teams on sizing and, if needed, swap uniforms among players.
Game balls and scorebooks will be distributed to coaches on or about November 15th.



3rd Grade uses size ‘27’ ball.
Girls 4th-8th grade and Boys 4th/5th grade use size '28.5' ball.
Boys 6th-8th teams use size '29.5' ball
Resurrection CYO Uniform Policy:

For ALL games, Resurrection CYO participants must wear complete uniforms (team jerseys and
shorts) with the Resurrection name on the jersey. Jerseys are to be tucked in.

If the player wears a t-shirt under their jersey, it must be white.
4

We ask all coaches to respect & enforce our uniform policy as your players are not only
representing their team on the court, but also Resurrection Parish.
Game Day
Games are schedules by the league on Saturdays and Sundays. The first team schedules to play
Saturday morning is responsible for helping the Gym Manager set up and the last scheduled team
is required to assist with close up. The game schedule is always available on the table outside the
gym at the entry table if you need to verify if you are the last game of the day.
There is no need to breakdown the gym on Saturday night unless the schedule indicates there are
no Sunday games. Coaches and players must clean up after themselves and their fans following
every game.
Stages in Grammar School gym: Make sure there is no sitting on the stage or kids running around
backstage in the Grammar School gym.
Scoreboard/Clock: We have electronic wall-mounted scoreboards in each gym. The first team on
Saturday morning should set it up and the last team on Sunday must make sure it is put away. The
clocks should be stored in the CYO designated area in each gym. If there is any malfunction we
have a portable electronic clock in each gym as back up. Please report any issue with the clock or
scoreboard as soon as it comes to your attention.
Coaches should assign someone (of reasonable age) to work the clock and table for their home
games. People working the clock or scoring should not cheer at the table.
Game Schedule / Changes:
The Westchester/Putnam County Coordinator determines the schedules, and maintains the website
of schedules, directions and standings at www.wpcyo.net. The website will be updated and
available about two weeks before the game season starts.
Changes to Schedule: We strongly urged that coaches make every effort to play all games as
scheduled. It is very difficult to reschedule games.
Home Games:
If you have to reschedule a Home Game, the change request should be emailed to the Schedule
Manager no later than the Monday night before the scheduled game. (see ‘Key Contacts’ tab on
website). The weekend schedule must be confirmed to the referees the Monday prior. If the game
5
gets changed after Monday night, due to a coach conflict, the coach is responsible for paying the
full referee fees.
Away Games:
If you have to reschedule an Away Game, please get in touch with the opposing Coordinator and
work things out with him or her directly. All changes must be made by Monday before the game.
The Parish Coordinators’ contact listing is available on the http://www.wpcyo.net website under
Contacts.
All schedule changes must be confirmed by both parishes and every effort will be made to update
the schedule on the WPCYO website. Please keep an eye on the online schedule and report any
discrepancies via email to the Schedule Manager.
Snow Policy:
If there is inclement weather, the decision on playing Home Games will be made by the CYO
Coordinator. Decisions on Away Games rest with the Coordinator of the other parish. No team can
force another team to travel to an Away Game if the team does not want to risk going out in bad
weather. This is true even if the game is not officially cancelled. You will be informed of Home and
Away game cancellations via email. Resurrection CYO coordinators will work with other parish
coordinators to reschedule Home Games. Coaches should work with the Away Game parish
coordinator to reschedule. Some Home makeup games may need to be played on a weekday and
other teams may lose practice time when games are rescheduled.
Reimbursements
Ref Fees: Grades 4-8 Head Coaches will receive a check in mid-November to cover the referee
fees. The referee fee is $50, per ref, per game, with two refs per game. One coach pays one
referee and the opposing coach pays the other. If you end up with an opposing team not appearing
for a scheduled game, please send an email to Schedule Manager and ask for assistance
collecting a ref payment from the no-show parish. The referees should be paid at the beginning of
the game, not the end.
For 3rd Grade intramurals, there is one ‘teaching’ ref per game and he is paid $70 per game in cash.
What we have done in past years was the team which appears FIRST on the site schedule TEAM1
vs. TEAM2, pays the ref.
If you want to use your practice time for an organized scrimmage with ref(s), you are responsible for
the ref fee.
6
League Rules
This season’s rules sheet is attached as Addendum 1 to this document. The rules will also be
taped to the each of the scorer’s table in the Doty and Grammar School gyms.
Please be mindful of the ‘point differential’ rules.
Tournaments:
There is a Tournament Page on the resurrectioncyo website with detailed information about local
tournaments.
The program will pay for each team to play in two tournaments per season. Coaches may pay up
front and then send an email to the CYO Coordinator requesting reimbursement. To receive
reimbursement, please include the following information:
RESURRECTION COACH / TEAM:
TOURNAMENT NAME:
AMOUNT:
PAYABLE TO:
MAILING ADDRESS:
If you can get this info emailed up to two weeks in advance of the tournament, a check can be
mailed directly to the provider of the tournament.
Any fees related to anything other than ref and tournaments must be pre-approved for payment.
Reporting Results:
Each coach has the responsibility to report HOME game results. Actual scores are not reported,
just a score of 2 for the winning Team and a 0 for the losing Team. After a HOME game, coaches
must report the results of the game online.
