PROJECT BUILD GAME DESIGN COMPETITION 2017 TERMS & CONDITIONS 1. The Organizers reserve the right, in their sole and absolute discretion, to amend or vary any of the Terms & Conditions at any time, without prior notice, and by entering the Competition; participants are deemed to have agreed to any such amended Terms & Conditions. 2. Should any dispute arise in connection with the Competition, or with the interpretation or implementation of these Terms & Conditions, the decision of the Organizers shall be final. 3. The Terms & Conditions shall be governed by and construed in accordance with Singapore Law and any litigation thereto shall be submitted to the jurisdiction of the Courts of Singapore only. Duration March Mach 4. The Competition will run from 55 552March March 2017 to to May2017 2017 (both dates inclusive). june 2017 2017 to 225 2 June June 2017 Submissions received after 2 25June May2017 2017 shall be disqualified from the Competition. 5. The Organizers reserve the right to vary the Competition period without prior notice. Eligibility 6. The Competition is open to all citizens as well as residents living in Singapore. Competition Objective 7. Teams are required to develop a tabletop game that can be played by at least 2 players. 8. Each team may submit up to 2 unpublished games of any of the following types: 9. The game should be engaging yet simple i.e. easy enough for an 8 year old to understand and play but interesting enough for an adult to enjoy as well. 10. Play time for the games should not exceed 60 minutes. 11. The game should help communicate the importance of Universal Design (UD) or inclusivity in the built environment. Registration 12. Interested participants may form groups of at least two but no more than four members to take part in the Competition. 13. Participants may register their participation at www.bca.gov.sg/projectbuild. 14. Participants are eligible for a free workshop to learn more about UD and game design. The workshops are limited to 35 participants per session and, on a first-come-firstserve basis. Only unpublished games will be accepted for the Competition. For the context and purpose of this Competition, ‘unpublished game’ refers to any game that has not been contracted to any publisher, or exist prior to this Competition in any form accessible to the public, or submitted as an entry to a previous tabletop Competition anywhere in the world. 16. Games must be original and shall not infringe any copyrights or any other rights of any third parties. All artwork submitted must be owned or commissioned by the participants, or available in the public domain. 17. Games must not contain material that is inappropriate, dangerous, indecent, obscene, distasteful, defamatory or slanderous. The content must not promote bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promote discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age. 18. The Organizers are not liable for any copyright infringement on the part of the participants. By participating in the Competition, teams have agreed to indemnify the Organizers against the infringement of any intellectual property rights or other proprietary rights, including claims for costs, charges and expenses in respect thereof. 19. The Organizers shall not be responsible nor shall accept any liabilities of whatsoever nature and however arising or suffered by the participants and/or third parties resulting directly or indirectly from the Competition. 20. The Organizers reserve the right to disqualify any submission for failure to abide by the rules and regulations of the Competition; for submitting false, inaccurate or incomplete information; or which infringes any copyright. Submission Requirements 21. Teams are required to submit a playable game to [email protected]. A “playable game” is defined as one that comes with all components required and is in adequate condition for the game toto be be played. 22. Each submission must include the following details: Team profile: Name, nationality, age, address, email and contact number of all team members. Game profile: Name and type of game (e.g. board game, card game, etc), description of game, number of players, recommended ages and average play time Rules of the Game: Objective of game and a summary of how game is played. The game starting set up and victory conditions must be clearly spelt out. Exceptions (if any) need not be included at this point. Pitch: A short description (no more than 150 words) about why game is unique, exciting, deserving of winning the Competition and being published. *Supporting Materials (optional): Images of game and its components. 23. All information should be typed out using Arial font size 11 with 1.5 line spacing and should not exceed eight A4 pages, including images (if any). The information should be submitted in PDF format and should not exceed 5 MB in size. 24. All submissions must be emailed to [email protected] by 25 May 2017. 2 june June 2017 Judging Panel 25. The Organisers shall appoint a panel of judges, comprising industry experts to evaluate the submissions. 26. All decisions made by the panel will be final. Any correspondence, enquiries, appeals or protests will not be entertained before, during and after the Competition. Evaluation 27. Submissions will undergo two phases of evaluation. 28.Phase 1: Submissions will be shortlisted based on the following criteria: 29.A maximum of 20 games will be shortlisted for Phase 2 evaluation. 30.Phase 2: Shortlisted teams are given three weeks to submit a prototype of the game. Teams will be given a $200 subsidy for the prototype development. This subsidy will be reimbursed to the team upon successful submission of the prototype. 31. The Organizers will not be responsible for any damage that may occur during the delivery of the prototype. 32.All prototypes shall be returned to the teams after the Competition upon request. Teams are required to make their own arrangements to collect their prototypes upon notification by the Organizers. 33.Submissions will be evaluated using the same set of criteria used in Phase 1 evaluation. However, teams are allowed to fine-tune their submissions for the purpose of Phase 2 evaluation. Timeline 34.The timeline for the Competition are as follows: Competition Opens: Competition Closes: Phase 1 Evaluation: Submission of Prototype: Phase 2 Evaluation: Announcement of Winners: 5 March 5 March 20172017 25 May 2 June 2017 2017 May2017 – 15 June 2017 5 - 2326June 16 June – 5 July 26 June - 14 July 20172017 6 –- 25 July 2017 17 July 4 August 2017 End July 2017 Mid - August 2017 Prizes 35.The timeline for the Competition are as follows: 36.The Organisers may also select a game from the Competition submission for mass publication. The team whose game has been selected for publication will be awarded an additional $500. They will also be credited as the developers of the game. 37. The Organizers is not obligated to award a prize if they do not feel that the submissions are of the standard required. 38.The Organizers reserve the right to modify the Competition prizes as and when necessary, without prior notice. Publication of Games 39.By participating in the Competition, teams have deemed to have given the Organizers the right to use and publish any submission without requiring the permission of the teams. The Organizers also reserve the right to edit any game for the purpose of publication. Publicity 40.Winners of the Competition will be featured on the Organizer’s communications platforms.
