The High School contest is open to students in grades 9 - 12. A school may enter no more than two teams with each team consisting of five students. If a school registers two teams two sponsors must attend the meet. The sponsors will be responsible for assisting in the scoring and administering the speed round questions. A school may bring only one student alternate. Submit the alternate’s name with the registration form. The sponsors are responsible for reading and completely understanding all the competition rules. Each team member must bring two sharpened (#2) pencils to the meet. Calculators may be used during the written test ONLY, but are not supplied. On the day of the competition, a school that has not completed signing in prior to the start of the competition will not be allowed to participate. NO LATE ARRIVALS WILL BE SEATED. Only one alternate will be allowed to attend but will not be seated in the competition area. All students, at the same time, will take a one hour multiple choice written math test consisting of 50 questions. Then, after a lunch break, each team member, one at a time, will participate in the speed round. There are 5 questions in each speed round. The tests are developed exclusively for the use by the South Carolina Independent School Association. All test books, questions, answer sheets, answer keys and score sheets will be collected at the end of the competition. All parts of the test belong entirely to SCISA and may not be removed from the competition site without permission. Student work will not be returned. MATH MEET INSTRUCTIONS Only #2 pencils are to be used. Each student should bring at least two (2). Calculators may be used during the written test ONLY, but are not supplied. 1. Sponsors report to the registration table to receive packets. 2. Prepare name tags for each of your five team members ensuring that the number appearing on their name tags corresponds to the number on your team Score Sheet. There is no strategy to the order. The number corresponds to the order in which your students will report to the Speed Round. 3. Team members and alternates will be seated and separated by 10:30 at which time all sponsors will report to the main area to help distribute testing materials. Late arrivals will not be seated. Once the test begins, sponsors will meet with Mr. Watt in the Iris Room for further instructions. 4. When the written test is over, collect all of your students answer documents. Clip all five team members’ Scantron answer documents on top of your score sheet (DO NOT CLIP ALTERNATES’ ANSWER DOCUMENTS) and exchange them with your Grading Partner. During this time, you may get in line to have your sheets scored or begin your lunch which is being served in the Iris Room. Record the scores, exchange with your partner, and double check the recorded grades and team score. 5. During the Speed Round, teachers will sit in front of and proctor one student from another school. Each student on the team will be given 5 Speed Round questions, one at a time. Mr. Watt will give complete instructions to sponsors and students at the beginning of the Speed Round. 6. At the conclusion of the Speed Round, total the individual scores and record in the Speed Round Total Scores blank. Add the total score from the written test and the total score from the Speed Round in the blank at the bottom of the score sheet. Record the name of the high point team member in the appropriate space. PLEASE PRINT THE NAMES! 7. Locate your own team’s score sheets, double check the scores and the high point winner for accuracy. Initial in the appropriate blank when you are satisfied that the scores recorded are accurate and turn in the score sheets in at the stage for the final tally. Awards Ceremony will follow. 8. No discussion of the scores will be heard after the contest and the announcement of the winners.
