Call to Order - 7:02 PM II. Special Presentation A. Welcome from South Plantation HS President Asana. Welcome from South Plantation Assistant Principal. B. BCASC would like to present an award to Chuck Puleri, of Herff Jones for his assistance and backing of many BCASC events. III. Guest Speakers A. Patricia Good - gives thanks to all students in appreciation for all accomplishments, leaves with motivational quote, “Attitude determines your altitude!” B. Ms. Dawn and Merdock from the Broward County Humane Society – offers appreciation to BCASC for their assistance in all aspects of the Humane Society. BCHS offers teen programs in which teens may work alongside with animals one on one. Gives thanks for all donations. Volunteer programs have a waiting list, program is on a first come first serve basis. C. Introduction of all BCASC Officers IV. Minutes and Roll Call A. Due to the last meeting being the 2014 BCASC Convention there are no minutes to report. B. Treasurer’s Report A. BCASC has $9,408.04 in the treasury. There is $8,908.04 in the operating fund and $500 in the scholarship fund. High school dues are $110 dollars. Middle School Dues are $30. Dues are due no later than November 1st 2014. VI. Officer’s and Student Advisors to the School Board A. Unsung hero award will be continuing. The August selections must be submitted to the Student advisor to the School Board by 9/5. B. Speak up speak outs will be continuing. These are sessions in which Jaime and Fernando attend schools and discuss county activities. VII. Student Activities Liaison Report A. Mr. Roland encourages all eligible students to vote during elections. Voting turnout was less than 13%. B. Bond issue discussed, and delegates were informed that the Bond would provide over $880 million in funds for school building and technology repairs. C. Mr. Roland gives thanks to all student body presidents. Quotes Nike, “Just Do It”. D. High Schools will participate in 5 BCASC projects. Middle Schools will participate in 4 BCASC projects. Schools are allowed to branch off from the 4 or 5 county projects. E. Mr. Roland was disappointed that no schools attended Broward County Schools meeting regarding Valedictorian system or College Honors system. F. Broward County Ethics forum committee will meet at Western HS on September 3rd at 3:30pm G. Middle School Leadership Workshop: if anybody is interested please pick up an application. These forms should be submitted to Mr. Roland by 9/5 H. FASC Kickoff Conference will take place at Ocoee HS on September 19th & 29th I. D6 next meeting will take place at S.L.A.M Academy on Saturday 9/27. J. State Convention will be held at Jefferson HS located in Tampa approximately in the last week of February and the first week of March VIII. Committee Reports – there are no committee reports IX. Old Business A. Explanation of County Wide Projects i. Humane Society Report (August/September) In need of a county chair. ii. Honor Flight (October/November) Goal is to raise a minimum of $48,000 iii. Love Your Planet (January/February) Each school will be free to select their own project. In need of a chair for this project. iv. Joe DiMaggio Glove Challenge (March/ April) Chair has already been selected for this project. v. Destination Diploma – HS Only (All Year) In need of a countywide chair. B. Sponsored Events i. Broward Student Ethics Forum- planning is already in place, chair will be chosen at Sept. 3rd meeting at 3:30pm ii. Middle School Leadership Workshop iii. Wacky Olympics- scheduled for March 7th 2015. Will be located at Western HS iv. Broward Student’s Leaders day @ NSU X. New Business 1.South Plantation HS moved that the BCASC would pay for the continental breakfast at Broward Student Leaders Day to be held on Friday, March 6, 2015. Seconded by West Broward HS Motion carried 43 - 0- 7 abstentions 2. Cooper City HS moved that BCASC hold a contest to determine a co-host for the annual BCASC Convention. While the convention will be held at Pompano Beach High School and the Pompano Beach High School Student Government will continue to provide logistical support, the co-host would select the theme for the convention and select and help with convention decorations. To be selected a school must make a 4minute presentation at the October BCASC meeting explaining the theme they are suggesting and why they should be selected. After the presentations the BCASC would vote, the convention co-host being chosen by a majority vote. The BCASC would provide the convention co-host with $300 with which they are to purchase decorations. The school selected will receive 4 free registrations to the BCASC Convention. This contest will be open to both middle and high school. However, a school must register with the president (Flanagan High School) by Wednesday, October 1, 2014 to make a presentation.Seconded by South Plantation HS. Motion carried 44-0-6 abstentions 3. South Broward moved that the BCASC establish a committee to research the possibility of holding a countywide student talent show, the funds raised by such a show would go to the BCASC Scholarship Fund. Seconded by Cypress Bay HS Motion carried 48-2 4. Blanche Ely HS moved that the BCASC authorizes the officers to procure a motivational speaker for the BCASC Convention and that the amount paid to that speaker not to exceed $1,000. This sum is to be inclusive of all expenses. Seconded by Ft. Lauderdale HS. Motion carried 50-0 XI. Special Announcements A. Duties of Chair schools – must send report forms to Flanagan HS (BCASC President School) C. Chair Applications were distributed to delegates XII. Open Floor- “At my school we…” A. South Broward HS - Freshmen Invasion, all clubs represented greetings from principal and athletics. Upcoming projects will be “Lock-In” to affiliate students with school. B. Cooper City HS – Rush week- Monday to Friday all clubs hold a booth at lunch, allowing new students to sign up for the various clubs the school has to offer. C. Coconut Creek HS - Started Freshman Academy in which freshmen separated from upperclassmen. Freshmen were provided I.D’s and t-shirts. And were affiliated with clubs, sports, etc. D. New Renaissance MS – Raised money for breast cancer, Honor Flight, and Joe DiMaggio. E. South Plantation HS – Paladin Round Up, Freshmen Boot Camp. $10 registration fee. T-Shirt and other gear. Ice Breakers and other games to affiliate students. F. Cypress Bay HS – Freshmen orientation that was a beach/ surf theme. Lifeguard SGA students informed freshmen on school activities. A spirit square offered freshman the opportunity to see the organizations the schools had to offer. G. Coral Springs HS – Share a Coke with a Freshman, handing out surveys to Freshman and Upper Classmen to have a mentorship program with all clubs and sports. H. Atlantic Tech – ALS Ice Bucket Challenge raised over $470 in 4 minutes. I. Plantation High School – Colonel Boot Camp, paid $15 shirts given saying “I survived Colonel Boot Camp” freshmen were affiliated on campus. J. Ft. Lauderdale HS – Leadership Lock-in for students across campus. K. Hallandale HS – Freshmen Orientation, letters sent to houses to advertise orientation, books, and schedule L. Flanagan HS – First CFLTC, an interview into SGA gave student the opportunity to partake in this boot camp. M. McArthur HS – Freshman Invasion, Student Panels to for freshmen students, Pep Rally, and introduction into HS life. N. Blanche Ely HS – Greeting week with freshmen, and pep rally to encourage positive influences. O. Boyd Andersen HS - Let’s get acquainted week, fun activity to have students assimilate into High School. P. Deerfield Beach HS – Freshmen Round Up pep rally for freshmen to orient themselves into high school with school clubs. Tailgating party unifying the student body. Q. Dillard HS - Freshman Orientation, all clubs, sports, and activities advertising all school activities. R. Coral Springs Charter School – The Princess Party; going to a homeless shelter to set up a party to make the children feel like royalty. S. Imagine MS – Dodgeball tournament, winning teams will compete against teachers. Tournament welcomed for students grades 6-8. T.
