AACX Technical Guide 2012 AACX is brought to you by: Pro Cycling Legend Laura Van Gilder and the Annapolis Bicycle Racing Team present AACX, a new, challenging but enjoyable cyclocross event held within the natural beauty of historical Roedown Farm in Anne Arundel County, Maryland. This exciting new course, personally designed by Laura will be as beautiful to look at as it is to race. The rolling terrain, enhanced by strategic design features will certainly appeal to riders of all abilities. Situated 25 miles south and east of Baltimore and DC, Roedown Farm is traditionally known for hosting equestrian Steeple Chase events for the past 35 years. The rolling meadows of the historic Davidsonville farm provide a spectacular backdrop for the 1.5 mile loop highlighted by the colorful foliage of late fall. Whether enjoying the scenic views as a spectator or competing with your friends, this southern Maryland race will add a new dimension to Cyclocross racing. Location: Roedown Farm 3856 Wayson Road Davidsonville, MD 21035 From Annapolis (approximately 30 minutes) Go south on Route 2 through the Route 214 intersection. Continue on Route 2 another 5 miles. Turn right on Harwood Road to Roedown Farm. From Washington and Baltimore (approximately 1 hour) In Anne Arundel County, take Route 50 to Route 424 South (Davidsonville Road). Turn right onto 214 West (Central Avenue). Go 1 mile and turn left on Queen Anne Bridge Road, then bear left onto Wayson Road. Turn right on Harwood Road and right into Roedown Farm. Registration: BIKEREG: AACX - A Laura Van Gilder Cyclocross Course Design Registration Fees: $25, $10 for U19 events and Lil' Belgians ride for Free. Online registration closes on Thursday, October 25th at 11:00pm There is a nominal additional fee for online registration with BikeReg. There is no mail-in registration Same Day Late Registration is available, there is an additional $10 same day registration fee. Avoid the $10 same day late day fee by bringing a junior. Race Day Registration will open at 8:00am Licensing Requirements: A domestic USAC license is required for all categories. Annual and One Day USAC licenses will be available for sale at the registration booth but only Cat 4 riders may race on a one-day license. NOTE ON RACING AGE: Your racing age is your age as of December 31, 2013 (not 2012). Racer Sign In: Day-of Racer Sign-in is located at the farm, look for the tents between the parking and the course. Sign-in opens at 8:00 am and closes 15 minutes before each event. Parking: Roedown Farm is an Environmentally Green working farm. AACX is working with Roedown to promote this Green environment by sponsoring a Carbon Friendly Event by way of a $3 per car parking fee. All proceeds will go towards planting trees on the property. After entering the farm property, take an immediate left, a parking assistant will help you from there. Please remember that you are parking on working farm fields so please be respectful of the land. Try not to tear up the ground as little as possible. Please pick up ALL of your trash. We strongly encourage riders, spectators, and volunteers to carpool, as it is both environmentally responsible and fashionable. Course Description: The approximate 2.5 kilometer course looping through the historical steeple chase equestrian race course on the grounds of Roedown Farm. It will include a combination of uphill, downhill and flat sections run entirely on grass fields. Warm-up: The course will be open for warm-up at 8:00 and about 15 min. prior to each event if the racers from the previous race have finished. Gather at the Finish line and a Course marshal will let you know when the course is open. Riding on the course during an event is prohibited and may result in disqualification from participation in registered event with no refund, revocation of Call-Up position, or other time penalty for registered event. Start Line Protocol: Racers must report to the holding pen adjacent to the starting grid for staging 15 minutes before the start of their race. Call-Up Protocol: All Call ups will be done based on the Sportif standings and then in order of registration and staged sequentially by race number. Call up riders must be pre-registered. Cat 4 races line up by order of registration. Race numbers will be assigned based on the following: Order of registration, late registrants, and promoter's discretion. Lapped Riders: Lapped riders will finish on the same lap as the leaders. Riders in danger of being lapped must yield to oncoming racers and are not to interfere with their progress or trail behind them Pit: There will be one double-sided pit on the course. Please remove your equipment immediately following your race to make room for others. Team Tents: There is space designated for team tents adjacent to the registration/vendors/ staging area. Please notify the race committee if you would like to reserve space. There is no cost for this. Field Limits: For the races with combined fields the 125 field limit is for the COMBINED field, not for each individual field. BikeReg has been set up so that once the limit has been reached for the combined field registration will close for each of the individual fields within the combined field. Prizes: All cash prizes will be based on minimum field sizes with the exception of the Men’s and Women’s Elite races. A minimum of 12 racers is required in the Cat 1 Men's and Cat 1/2 Women's races for the full prize. Less than 12 riders split the total of the Cat 1 entry fee pot. Common Courtesy: Please be respectful of the environment and its inhabitants. This is private property and we would like to remind everyone that we all have a responsibility to leave the race course cleaner than we find it on race day. All refuse should be discarded into appropriate containers. Any rider found illegally discarding objects on the farm, the roads leading to and from the race course, and the on the race course itself will be dealt with accordingly (see USCF Rule3B9, which states in part – ‘Riders may not discard materials that are not biodegradable; they may pass or throw such material to support personnel in places far from any bystanders [relegation or disqualification for littering or unauthorized feeding]). Trash containers will be available for rider’s to use around the property. Sportsmanlike Conduct: The Chief Referee and Race Promoter expect ALL spectators and riders to act like responsible adults. Use of profanity and blatant unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated. This is a family friendly park and we are not the only users so please be courteous to all park patrons and staff.
