Sessions will be classroom discussions and one on-ice session involving watching athlete demonstrators. Coaches may choose to bring their skates and stand on the ice, or to observe from the penalty boxes. Registration will take place from 7:30am – 7:50am, on Friday morning, in the atrium / lobby of the Holiday Inn. Coaches who are staying for the Coaches Track at Program Components Camp may register for both programs at this time. COACHES’ TRACK AT PROGRAM COMPONENTS CAMP – SATURDAY & SUNDAY, APRIL 22-23 The primary objective of the coaches’ track at the National Program Components Camp is for coaches to acquire a complete understand the Program Components Score. Through sessions with faculty, coaches with learn strategies to develop athletes in this area. In advance, please read the criteria and details of the PCS before attending camp. This will enable coaches to use the weekend to enhance their coaching knowledge without having to learn about the PCS from scratch. While observing the on-ice sessions, coaches will be able to observe how the faculty is interacting with the athletes, and how the athletes are learning. The classes are designed to give athletes skills to be able to perform better in the PCS area, and to show them how they can have fun practicing this part of their skating. As observers, coaches should leave with ideas on how to create classes and lesson plans to develop this part of skating for their athletes at home, especially in a group lesson format creating a huge cost savings for athletes. Coaches will get to observe a range of levels, and the entire faculty for on-ice sessions. Heidi DeLio Thibert (PSA Coaching Development Director) will serve as the Coaches Track Team Leader. Please communicate freely with her, and let her know of any questions or concerns at [email protected]. ON-ICE OBSERVATION SESSIONS: Coaches may observe on-ice sessions on the agenda from the hockey boxes. Coaches may not get on the ice, and must not distract the skaters or disrupt the sessions. If coaches want to observe additional sessions, not listed on the coaches schedule, please do so from the bleachers. LECTURES & PANELS: These are special classroom classes designated just for coaches, feel free to ask questions and add to the discussion. The PSA is partnering with U.S. Figure Skating to provide these educational opportunities to coaches during the athlete camp. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER PROFESSIONAL SKATERS ASSOCIATION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Q: If coaches have students attending, can coaches watch their classes? A: The Coaches Track schedule is designed to provide coaches with a mix of coach-only lecture sessions, observation sessions (one of each class type) and networking/discussion groups. The schedule is designed so that coaches will be able to watch one of every on-ice class offered, of varying level skaters. There is a good chance that coaches will see at least 1-2 of their skaters’ classes. We also understand some coaches prefer more observation time. Coaches may choose to skip an off-ice session, and watch on-ice instead. If coaches choose this, please respect the athletes, be quiet and discreet and watch from the stands, as to not disrupt any athletes. Also: All coaches are highly encouraged to watch the Group Number exhibition performances from on Sunday night. It is a lot of fun, and a great way for the skaters to “show off” what they learned! Q: Do coaches need skates? A: Not really. Coaches may choose to stand on the ice during the final demonstration class of the IJS Tutorial on Friday afternoon, but skates are not really necessary. All other on-ice classes must be observed from the penalty boxes. Q: Can coaches attend Parents’ Education Classes? A: Yes! An extensive Parents’ Education track is happening at the Holiday Inn. Coaches may choose to substitute any of these sessions for sessions on the coaches’ schedule.
