SHEFFIELD CITY COUNCIL JOB DESCRIPTION Informal Enquiries to Richard Fowler – 0114 2735689 DIRECTORATE: SERVICE: DIVISION/SECTION: POST TITLE: GRADE: Development, Environment and Leisure Culture Activity Sheffield Street Play Ranger Sug 3 (Fixed) RESPONSIBLE TO: Team Manager RESPONSIBLE FOR: Casuals staff and volunteers within the Street Play Team HOLIDAYS AND SICKNESS RELIEF: PURPOSE OF THE JOB: Cover for and by Street Play Co-ordinator and other staff within the team The prime purpose of the job is to assist in the delivery of wide ranging play programmes, activities and play projects to meet the needs of local children and young people in a variety of community settings at key times including evenings and weekends.. The post holder will work with the direction of the Street Play Co-ordinator to deliver and coordinate agreed service targets for the street play project WORKING FOR SHEFFIELD SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES To contribute to service planning, in conjunction with other officers To contribute to planning, supervising and delivery of play programmes that meet the needs of all people within the community To reduce barriers to participation by providing culturally sensitive activity’s as appropriate To raise awareness of and participation in play and physical activity To work within the policies and procedures of the city council To assist the street play co-ordinator when necessary in developing exit routes and sustainable play opportunities to follow the core street play programmes. Fundamental Policy Commitment To supervise the street play sessional staff within the Street Play Team To be responsible for safe working practices as defined by Directorate, City Council policy and street play risk assessments Strategy and performance Management To contribute to target setting and performance management within the street play team, as advised by the Street Play Co-ordinator Service development To contribute towards continuous improvement in the service in order to meet changing client/customer needs and ensure that the service remains at the forefront of innovation and change To continue to develop a personal knowledge and expertise of Activity Sheffield and Play and to undertake training as appropriate in order to generate new ideas for the service and to meet the changing needs of the post To Contribute to the promotion, development and opportunities for Activity Sheffield and Street Play in conjunction with other related agencies in the Sheffield Staff management and Supervision To supervise and motivate other play workers, sessional staff and volunteers leading by example Communication and Co-operation To develop positive working relationships, with colleagues and with individuals, groups and agencies outside the council WORKING FOR SHEFFIELD Finance and budgets To provide value for money services through ensuring that they are carried out in the most cost effective manner and within the budgets allocated To comply with the Councils Financial Regulations and Standing Orders.
