Fundraisers are the life blood of Camp Quality. We celebrate their innovation, imagination and sheer determination! If you are into personal challenges or just want to celebrate an occasion, get your friends and family to support you and use the opportunity to raise funds for Camp Quality and help make laughter the best medicine for children living with cancer and their families. Camp Quality has been supporting children living with cancer and their families since 1983. We understand that having a child diagnosed with cancer can be devastating. A families world is turned upside down and the emotional, physical and financial impact can last long after the initial diagnosis. Camp Quality believes that caring for children with cancer and their families goes beyond treatment and medication. That’s why we believe in the power of positive thinking, and that optimistic and resilient behaviours are fundamental psychosocial skills required for the cancer journey. Our unique programs cover educational, financial, hospital and recreational needs and are delivered by 13 National offices, 80 staff and over 3,000 volunteers throughout Australia. We passionately believe in celebrating life, fun, optimism and hope. 5 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit Let’s get started You can do it! CQ’s fundraising cream of the crop have put together some ideas for you, with a can do attitude you can do anything! As a guide, here are some popular fundraising strategies to do at home, school or your workplace. Easy “giggle” ideas Mufti days – Who doesn’t love a casual Friday? Hold a regular day at your school or workplace and charge those who join in. You can theme the mufti day too, make it silly socks, hats, ties, sunnies, etc day. Or dress up as your favourite movie star! Morning or Afternoon Tea – invite your friends and family, organise for your school or workplace! Charge an entry fee and have entrants donate a plate of food. Pancake brekkie or sausage sizzle lunch – hold at your home, workplace or school and charge a fee per item consumed. Try and get your local supermarket, butcher, to donate items to keep your expenses as low as possible! Sweepstakes or tipping competitions – hold competitions on who you think will win this year’s gold Logie, Oscar or Melbourne Cup! Hold a Garage or Book Sale – Someone’s trash is another person’s treasure! De-clutter your house and raise funds for Camp Quality at the same time! Ask your friends and colleagues to join in too, maybe they have a few items that could add to the sale? Guessing Competition – fill up a jar with lollies, marbles, or anything you can get your hands on! Charge each person per guess and have a nice prize for the person who guesses the closest without going over....PLUS they get the jar with the goodies! Colouring In Competition – hold a competition with school friends or work colleagues. Shave / Colour / Spray your hair – have people sponsor you to change your hair, maybe auction of the first shave, or first dab of colour to the highest bidder. Walking Club – organise a weekly walking club with friends or work colleagues and have participants make a donation per week 6 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit We believe in you Create a big “laugh” Comedy or movie night Sporting knockout event – get your work colleagues together for a sports knockout competition with some touch footy, cricket, soccer or netball. Each participant is charged a fee with all donations going to Camp Quality. Baby photo guessing competition – get your friends or work colleagues to bring in their cute baby photos and charge an entry fee. The winner gets a prize. A monthly 'fun therapy' lunch – bring a dish to share The peg game - Attach a peg to someone's clothing without them knowing; pass it around the office for a week- the person with the peg at the end of the week supplies morning tea Karaoke night – organise a night with family, friends or work colleagues and see who has talent! Ten Pin Bowling/ Barefoot Bowling – Bowl your friends and work colleagues over with a friendly game at the bowling alley or club Virtual Challenges & Competitions – Don’t want to leave the house? Want to release your inner-geek? Organise a Game day or tournament on your Wii, Playstation or Xbox. Bike Ride –Get a group of friends together and hold a sponsored bike ride. Cake Sale – It’s a bake-off! Bake a few cakes or slices and sell them at your school, workplace or to your friends. Get as many people involved as possible. Raffle / Auction – organise prizes for a raffle or auction to have at your school or workplace. Ask your local businesses to support you with prize donations. Treasure Hunt/Amazing race – organise a treasure hunt or an amazing race event at your school or workplace 7 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit Make em laugh out loud The “huge belly laugh” it’s worth all the blood, sweat & tears! Children’s Fun Day – arrange activities and entertainment for your work colleagues to bring their children along and charge a fee for each child who participates. Bingo night - Instead of numbers it could be happy/positive words to link in with Camp Quality! Contact us for the special CQ version! Cinema Screening – approach your local cinema and see if they will hold a preview screening of a new release movie for Camp Quality. Cocktail party Performance – contact your local arts centre, drama group or school to organise a charity performance where all proceeds raised are donated to Camp Quality Sportsman's dinners, lunch, or family BBQ GOLF DAYS – A hole lot of fun Entry Fees – Try to only earn a small amount off each person for their entry fees on top of what the golf course charges Hole sponsors (Advertisers) – You will want to get a sponsor/advertiser for each of the 18 holes, as well as the practice green. Programme guide Advertising – If you have a programme booklet for the day, look to get companies to advertise in it. Special Guest – Organise a sports celebrity, local celebrity, golfer, or an expert involved in what your cause is about. Find someone who will draw people to play in your Golf day and that will make it even more enjoyable! 8 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit Continue laughing On Course Games 1) Hole-in-one Each play is $20 and the winner will win a car 2) Pro-shot – “buy a drive” $40-200 for the local pro to play a shot for a team on the hardest hole They can get him to drive from ladies tee, men’s tee, blind folded 3) Dummy-shot $10 for a team of their choice to have a bad golfer play a shot for them 4) Cheat book $5 you can buy a cheat book which entitles you to x cheat shots. For example – get out of bunker free, replacement putt & replacement drive. 5) Putting Competitions These can be for free Putt with an odd implement (cricket bat/pool cue/giggle head on) Team with the 3 balls nearest to the pin Putting on their knees with a pool cue – “Eddy Charlton putt” 6) Giggle Putt $10 - 3 shots at the giggle mouth Winner gets a prize Trivia Night / Themed Dinners Decide on a theme for your trivia night or dinner Think about where and when you want to have your event Invite along your friends, family and work colleagues If you are holding a trivia night, start thinking up some wacky questions 9 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit Let’s get serious for a moment Ok, so now you know how you would like to fundraise for Camp Quality, the next step is to get started! Do you want to join a fundraising event or are you creating your own? Then follow the instructions below to start fundraising for us! Fundraise for one of our events If you want to join, register or set up your fundraising page for one of our events, then please visit our Events page at www.campqualityfundraising.org.au to find the event you want to fundraise for. Create your own fundraising event If you’d like to create your own fundraising event to raise funds for Camp Quality - be it a trivia night, garage sale, mufti day or any other wacky or new idea, please click here to download and complete a Fundraising Application form. The information you complete will help us provide you with an Authority to Fundraise and you can then begin fundraising! Once you have filled out the application and sent it back, we will contact you to have a chat and to help you with anything else you may need. CQ can provide you with donation tins, receipt books, bookmarks, balloons, posters etc to help you promote your event. When all the t’s are crossed and i’s are dotted, we will send you a Fundraising Sanction Letter, this is an authority that allows you to fundraise on behalf of Camp Quality. Note; if you are fundraising online through a fundraising website like Everyday Hero, your sanction is handled by the online fundraising website. Expenses at Your Fundraiser If your event incurs expenses, as a requirement, you must provide Camp Quality with a budget of expenses prior to the fundraising event. You can deduct your necessary expenses from the proceeds of your fundraising activity, however total expenses should not exceed 40% of total earnings, and you must let Camp Quality know if you will do this prior to the event. For an easy way to check, ask us for a copy of our budget template. 10 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit Create an Online Fundraising Page Create a Fundraising page at www.campqualityfundraising.org.au 5 reasons why creating a fundraising page at www.campqualityfundraising.org.au is an awesome way to share what you are doing and why. 1 Every dollar raised goes to Camp Quality This is our official Camp Quality supporters’ website so every dollar donated through your page will go directly to Camp Quality. You avoid handling funds and your family and friends receive an immediate tax deductible receipt. (Your offline donations will also appear in your total as long as your donor tributes you at the time of the donation). 2 Raise your goal Everyone loves to win! When you set your goal you will be sharing it, and when friends and family donate they will see their contribution helping you reach your goal for the kids. 3 Asking for donations is easy Once your page is set up you’ll have a cool dashboard that makes emailing friends your page and linking it to your favourite social media links a breeze. 4 Giving thanks makes everyone feel good Your dashboard will help you manage your thank you emails, keep track of who is yet to donate. 5 You’re making a difference You’re sharing in our mission, to be there for every child with cancer and their family throughout their journey- wherever it may take them. The more you raise the more impact we can have on reaching every child living with cancer and their families. Register through Everyday Hero You can be our hero by building your own personal fundraising page. It only takes a few minutes to build and email to all of your contacts. www.campqualityfundraising.org.au 11 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit We can help you with...... Brochures & Promotional Material Camp Quality can send you brochures, bookmarks, balloons, postcards, tattoos and badges. We also have Camp Quality banners which can be loaned for activities or events. Collection Cans & Buckets Cans and buckets are a great way of raising money. Simply display them in a prominent and secure location for people to drop in their spare change. Filled collection devices are to be returned to Camp Quality to be opened and counted by Camp Quality staff. If you are unable to return your collection device, please contact Camp Quality so alternate arrangements can be made. Volunteer Badges Some activities will involve direct face to face collection. Camp Quality will need to issue volunteer badges displaying the authority details which must be worn by all collectors. Collectors’ details will be registered and badges must be returned to Camp Quality at the end of your activity or event. Raffle and Receipt Books Camp Quality can provide you with raffle books ($2 and $5) We can also provide you with receipt books for your fundraiser. Receipt books must be returned at the end of the event whether they have been used or not. Camp Quality issues 2 different types of receipt books; Tax Deductible and Non-Tax Deductible Receipt Books. Each has different uses according to the tax regulations as set out by the Australia Taxation Office. As a guide, if you are receipting a donation where a person or organisation is receiving nothing in return a tax deductible receipt can be issued. In most other cases for example, Auctions, tickets to Balls etc a non-tax deductible receipt is to be issued. 12 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit What’s in a name? Logo & Logo Usage Guidelines Detailed guidelines for our logo and its usage will be provided to you if you require. Please remember any usage of our logo will require Camp Quality approval. Our logo represents our brand, so it’s very important that you follow the rules of its use carefully. Please make sure that you use the correct logo for your requirements. Naming your Event Camp Quality’s name cannot be used as part of your event name; however you may say that funds raised are to be donated to Camp Quality. Camp Quality Representatives If you would like a Camp Quality representative to attend your event or activity, please let us know as early as possible. 13 Camp Quality Fundraising Toolkit Social networking Facebook: Create an event on Facebook for your fundraiser and invite friends and family to support it by attending! You can also update your Facebook status with your link to your Facebook event or Camp Quality fundraising webpage – so all of your friends can see your fundraiser details in their News Feeds. For an extra push, post your link on their walls. Ask friends to post a status update about your fundraising page or project. They can help you reach people you might not know. Become friends with Camp Quality on Facebook and tag us in any posts related to your fundraiser - www.facebook.com/CampQualityAU YouTube: Get creative and get on YouTube! Make a funny video of you training for your event or fundraiser. Or simply tell people why you are supporting Camp Quality and why they should donate. You can embed your video or link to it on Facebook, Twitter or your own blog. Check out Camp Quality’s dedicated YouTube Channel http://www.youtube.com/user/CampQualityAU/ Twitter: Share your fundraiser on Twitter and ask you followers to retweet your message. Be sure to add your link to your Facebook event or Camp Quality fundraising page so people can click it for more information. Remember to keep it short to leave room for others to retweet you! Tag Camp Quality in your tweets! @camp_quality Flickr or Picasa: Take photos of you prepping for your event or training for your marathon for example and share on photo sites like Flickr or Picasa. You can also embed these photos in a slideshow on your blog or link to it from your Facebook and Twitter. Blog: If you have a great story to share behind your fundraiser or why you are passionate about Camp Quality’s cause, start a blog. Blogs are a great way to share your photos, videos and tweets all in one and it just might get picked by other bloggers or media.
