Season 2008/09
Welcome to the Clifton Hill Cricket Club
About the Club
The Clifton Hill Cricket Club Inc. (CHCC) has been around for 40 years in one form or another and is
player driven. Current players fill all committee positions and players perform all administration and game
day functions. The club caters to all ages and all abilities and fields’ teams in two-day and one day limited
over competitions. Last year saw a strengthening of the club through the advent of an under 16 team which
has resulted in the migration of a number of junior players into the senior teams helping to ensure the future
of the club.
The next two years promise to be an exciting time with the City of Yarra planning to spend $900,000 on
new clubrooms at Ramsden street to replace the existing rooms. The committee is proposing to use this
season to build the fabric of the club to make the most of this opportunity and is particularly looking to
develop the family side of the club and increase female participation in the club.

The club is now fully smoke free and has recently received level one accreditation in the Good Sports
Program. We also run a very successful Milo Cricket program.
Teams
CHCC enters teams in the Eastern Cricket Association (ECA). The junior age groups are under 10, 12, 14
and 16. All junior teams play on synthetic pitches on Friday nights, Saturday or Sunday mornings. Players
must be under the age group on or after 1 September in the year in which the season commences
The senior teams are entered in the ECA’s synthetic competitions at various skill levels to cater for as wide
a group as possible. The number of players registered dictates the number of teams and the club encourages
under 16 and 14 players to make themselves available for senior selection. All senior games are played on
Saturday afternoons.
Participation
The club actively encourages participation of all children regardless of gender or ability. In the lower age
groups (10 to 14) the teams sort themselves out to a large degree with the players playing with their friends.
The only qualification to this rule is logistics. Each team entered needs 15 members to cover for illness,
holidays etc. Some juggling is required to achieve the balance between teams in each age group. Selection
in these age groups is based purely on a roster system to ensure all kids get equal opportunity. At the under
16 level the club looks to stream the players and selection is based upon performance and training.
Parental Support
The junior teams cannot function without the support of parents. On match day each team needs the
following functions to be covered. None are particularly onerous and all can be easily rostered between the
parents and players.

Assist the coach on game day and is general manager
EFTPOS. Organizes parents, team rosters and
communications. Lodges results on-line after the game.
Puts out the cones (players) and sets the stumps and
marks the crease and checks the oval for sticks, rocks
and glass. Puts up sponsor’s banners
Needs to know the rules, which are provided by the
ECA. Good role but should be shared each game.
Needs to know the process, best done in shifts
throughout the game but can be “owned” if it suits a
parent.
Updates the scoreboard on a regular basis, (This is a
good job for the players rostered off.)
Getting the kids to and from away games. Team
Manager co-ordinates
Got to feed the kids. Parents are rostered to provide
either food (fruit and sandwiches) or drinks. The club
will be running the canteen as well during all home
matches.
Coach and Team Managers are season long commitments whilst the others are game by game roles that can
be shared. This year the Team Coach and Team Manager will pay half the normal subscription for their
child in recognition of their valuable work.
Senior teams tend not to want to have their parents involved and largely take care of themselves. Each
player is expected to provide afternoon tea at home games and drinks on a roster basis.
Registration
A player registration form is attached and must be completed prior to your child playing for the club this
season.
.
Subscriptions
The CHCC is a not for profit incorporated club. However it does require a significant amount of money to
field the growing number of teams. Subscriptions form a significant part of the clubs revenue and together
with the sponsors and food and drink sales. The club has a policy of keeping subscription rates as
affordable as possible.
Subscriptions are age grouped because cost of equipment and ECA registration is different. This year the
committee has decided on the following subscription rates and has introduced a discounted rate for families
with multiple players registered. Subscriptions must be paid prior to the end of November and can be paid
in installments arranged with the club. There are no match day fees.

Club Apparel
The club has arranged for a number of garments with the club’s logo (and sponsor logo), which are
available for purchase at the canteen. These are not compulsory however due to the generous support of
Jellis Craig Real Estate Agents, who sponsor the juniors, we ask that when buying a shirt for your kids
you buy one from the club as it carries Jellis Craig’s logo. These shirts are the same cost as ones sold at
sports outlets. Price of the clothes are on listed on the Club Apparel order form.
