PIRATES CLUB CULTURE
At Parkdale Cricket Club (PCC) the emphasis for our Pirates
Junior program is founded on participation, developing cricket
and life skills while making friends - not winning.
In accordance with the Cricket Australia Junior policy, PCC
has developed junior coaching philosophies and guidelines
that support our volunteer coaches, ensuring our players
receive consistent coaching. The focus is on developing a
sense of belonging and the core skills which ensure players at
all levels enjoy their cricket and most importantly the club
environment.
The Pirate’s Junior Management is also committed to
ensuring your cricket experience is a pleasant and positive
one for players, families and friends alike.
PCC Pirates enforce that ALL junior players receive batting
and bowling opportunities and are rotated through all field
positions, to ensure they have the opportunity to learn,
practice their skills and to experience all aspects of the game.

COACHING
PCC Pirates place high emphasis on player development. We
seek to continuously improve our services offered, including
through growing a culture of professionalism amongst the
coaches, managers and players; including encouraging and
supporting all team coaches to obtain at least Cricket
Australia Level 1 Community Coaching Certification.
PCC Pirates aspires to build relationships and partnerships
with others who offer further opportunities for our players.
PCC Pirates understands the various stages of skill and
social development that young people are experiencing.
PCC Pirates provide guidelines and strategies on how to
manage young cricketers effectively within junior cricket to
nurture a skill development pathway that is developmentally
appropriate.
PCC Pirates promote the qualities and values required to
optimize a safe and supportive environment that has the
benefit of an enjoyable experience. This includes selecting
challenging activities, praise for improvement and effort,
with relevance to their age, level of maturation, fitness, skill
acquisition and level of competition. Allowing young people
to learn and be with their friends is the primary goal.

Pirates Coaches’ and Managers’ Responsibilities

with Pirates in the Subject
Field
All teams find their own way of organising what has to be
done but, generally, the coach runs the team, organises and
conducts training sessions and controls play. Usually, from
U12 level, teams appoint a captain for the day’s play; the
coach supervises the captain’s batting and bowling orders to
ensure they are fair. The manager supports the coach with
team administration which usually includes preparing parent
rosters for scoring, umpiring, completing and lodging the
match report (compulsory) into My Cricket.

Pirates Coaches’ Code
The coach’s primary goal is to ensure that all children in

essential ingredient for having fun. Teach players to follow
the rules in the spirit of cricket.

Pirates Players’ Code
At Parkdale CC Pirates the primary objective is to have fun
playing cricket.

players etc.
Respect your teammates, coaches, managers, opposition
players and coaches, official’s and all volunteers that support
your game.
Whether you win or lose ALWAYS be gracious in defeat, humble

WET OR EXTREME HOT WEATHER CANCELLATION
PROCEDURE
PCC Pirates state it is the responsibility of the coach/team
manager to assess the state of play. It is their responsibility
to check the SECA website or contact the appropriate
persons, communicate directly with the opposition club and
their own team and advise accordingly.
Please note: Usually, it is up to the coaches of both teams to
decide if play will proceed in wet weather or extremely hot
weather. This decision is often made at the ground.
Wet or extreme hot weather may also cause training to be
cancelled in which the responsibility to communicate falls
upon the Pirates head coach in collaboration with team
mangers. This is done through social media and being
available for contact by phone.

PCC PIRATES JUNIOR CRICKET DEVELOPMENT AND
PATHWAY PLAN
Aims of the Pirates Junior Program
Success at junior level will not be measured on the number
of junior premierships won. Instead success will be judged
on how many players are able to progress from junior
cricket to senior cricket, how many players are chosen in
representative development squads and junior teams. This
document is a working document that is not set for each
season but will evolve with the skills and desire of the
Pirates Junior Committee. The aim is to provide an
environment that is safe, healthy and fun; as well as
challenging.
