December 2016 Blair Academy Field Hockey

Blair Academy
Field Hockey
Friends of Blair Field Hockey,
Happy holidays! Thank you once again for your support this year as we continue the
work of building a great field hockey tradition at Blair. We recently concluded an
excellent fall season with another second-place finish in the New Jersey prep “A” state
tournament and another third-place finish in the Mid-Atlantic Prep League, once
again behind powerhouses Hill and Lawrenceville. Highlights of our season included
two exciting victories over The Hun School, one in double overtime, and a dominant
win on Peddie Day in front of an awesome home crowd!
Our goal as a field hockey program is to prepare our athletes to play at the next
level, and we are proud of our three Blair alumni currently playing in college: Haley
Gelberg ’16 is a Division I goalkeeper at the University of Pennsylvania, Haley
Chrobock ’15 is a starting attacker at Wellesley College, and Megan Stevens ’16 is
a starting defender at Shenandoah University. This fall, Samantha Shaw ’17 was
recruited by Bryn Mawr College, and she will play field hockey next year for the Owls.
With 42 girls in the program this year and a talented JV team, Blair field hockey
continues to grow and thrive on our campus. Many girls are working hard in the
off-season playing indoor hockey, and the admission office is buzzing with talented
players interested in joining our community. Blair field hockey has created a culture of
hard-working student athletes dedicated to improving our game and making our fans
proud! Thank you for keeping us in your hearts.
With gratitude,
Sarah O’Neil
Head Coach
December 2016
Blair’s Field Hockey
Endowment
Thanks to the many parents and
alumni who supported the field
hockey endowment, we have secured
$18,264 in gifts and pledges toward our
$100,000 goal. Funds generated from
the endowment will be used annually
at the coach’s discretion for state-ofthe-art equipment, training and travel
opportunities, and other “program extras”
that will help make the team even more
competitive.
This year, for the first time, we were able
to use endowment funds to assist a student
with camp fees. She and her family are
extremely grateful, as these additional
resources made her experience possible.
If you are interested in supporting
field hockey and providing additional
opportunities for our student athletes,
please contact Cara Mohlmann, director
of advancement, at (908) 362-6121, ext.
5628, or [email protected]. Support at
every level is greatly appreciated!
