show letter - Charters Dance

Dear Parents of our dancers,˝
This is to let you all know of our Charters Dance forthcoming summer show. Please take a look at
the information below and let me know if you would like your child to take part in our show. If you
decide not this time, then no problem at all, classes will still involve everyone and your child will still
benefit from attending.
This is only our second show. The last one in 2014; ‘Reminds me of Summer’ was a great success
and all involved loved the experience. It is my aim to hold one every two years so that all of our
wonderful dancers and performers from baby ballet to adult dance (should they wish) have a
chance to showcase their talent to family and friends. It’s an opportunity for all to experience the
fabulous world of theatre i.e. smiles, worn out stretchy feet and hairspray (lot’s of it!)
There are approximately 100 students in the school and I would like to incorporate each and every
one into the show. This will be quite an undertaking for me but with careful planning, co-operation
and a sense of humour I am sure we can create an exciting and enjoyable performance
experience.
The title of this year’s show will be ‘When I Grow Up’ with each class performing a themed dance.
Choreography of the dances will take place in usual class time.
The 2 performances will take place at The Social Hall, Englefield Green on Sunday 26th June.
Tickets will be available to buy at the beginning of May via our website.
To help you plan your calendar and to ensure that we have all of the children at the right times, the
dates and times are as follows:
Saturday 18th June - Dress Rehearsal at The Social Hall, Englefield Green.
Dress Rehearsal 9am - 2pm. All performers. Chaperones and technical volunteers are
required. Performers will not be dancing the whole time and may bring lunch/snacks. A
list of items to bring will be provided at the beginning of May.
Sunday 26th June - Shows at The Social Hall, Englefield Green. All performers will be
required to be in both shows at 12noon and 4pm. All performers and chaperones should
arrive 1 hour before each show time. Again, more information will be given out in May.
Each show should take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
The summer show can only operate with an enormous amount of support from a willing team of
backstage helpers and chaperones. If you can help in any way, please let me know. We will need
two groups of chaperones so that each group can watch the performance from the front during the
other show. You don’t need to be show-biz….just willing, patient and armed with hairspray.
When putting together a performance there will inevitably be costs. I do endeavour to keep these
to a minimum, however everybody who takes part in the show will require a costume and I am
asking each student to give the following to cover the cost. If your child is in one class then the
cost will be £35, if in two classes (i.e tap and modern) the cost will be £45. If you have any
difficulties in meeting the costs please, please do speak with me and we can make arrangements.
It is my first priority to give every student the chance to perform and not miss out due to financial
difficulties.
The costumes will be yours to keep after the show. I strive to find the BEST quality costumes so
that they can still be used after the show. Some of the children still tell me about how they practise
at home in their costume from 2 years ago.
If your child would like to take part in the show and if you are able to chaperone, please would you
complete the form below and return to Rachel with your costume fee no later than 24th March.
(Despatch for costumes is about 6 weeks wait so I need to get our order in early.)
I hope that you enjoy the remaining weeks of this term.
