JOB PURPOSE
The Value Stream Planner is responsible for accurate item information in the ERP system and the scheduling of
shop orders through all aspects of the manufacturing process to ensure timely building and shipping of products.
EXPECTATIONS
 Respond quickly to solve production scheduling issues to ensure the customer receives the best quality product
on time.
 Ensure component availability to allow on time shipment.
 Work in collaboration with production, purchasing, manufacturing engineering, sales personnel and outside
resources to implement the best solutions.
 Continually strive to find better ways to complete tasks and be the best in the industry.
 Treat people fairly.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
 Review production schedule and capacities requirements while creating shop orders for supplying production
cells, service parts, prototype and Custom Fabrication.
 Plan production flow based on availability and capacity of labor, parts, materials and equipment.
 Maintain check on material inventories, production progress, and other factors affecting schedules.
 Manage shop order load within capacity boundaries.
 Coordinate necessary outsourcing when required.
 Release orders for purchased components.
 Determine recourse in event of failures to meet schedules. Revise schedules, access impact, change order
dates, and communicate changes.
 Initiate and solicit ideas from individuals and teams (production managers, floor employees, etc.) on current and
potential scheduling issues.
 Participate in value stream and contribute to improvement projects.
 Maintain location records and inventory accuracy within value stream through cycle counting and physical
inventories. Assesses impact of inventory adjustments and takes appropriate action while communicating
required changes.
 Prepare Kanban sizing for new product introductions and engineering changes.
 Plan and facilitate new product introduction component inventory exchanges during transition period to prevent
stock outs and obsolescence.
 Process ECNs item master, BOM, and order policies, related to the value stream.
 Process special sales requests related to the value stream.
 Find root causes of various problems and develop/implement appropriate corrective actions.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience – A high school diploma/GED is required. Knowledge of manufacturing processes,
procedures and capacities, item masters, multi level bills of material, routings, production control procedures,
inventory concepts, and computer scheduling software concepts is also required. Five years of experience in
material/inventory flow in a manufacturing environment is required. A vocational or college degree in industrial
technology or a related field is preferred. Sheet metal fabrication knowledge and APICS certification is also
preferred.
Communication Skills - Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical manuals and procedures, blue prints, and
engineering and manufacturing documentation. Ability to write reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate
with other employees at all levels of the organization to solicit and share information.
Mathematical Skills - Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as statistics and probability. Ability to apply
concepts such as fractions, ratios, percentages, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability - Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to
interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and
concrete variables. Ability to assume responsibility for the results of decisions made.
Skills/Abilities - Ability to operate a variety of office equipment (computer and telephone/voice mail systems, fax
machine, and copier). Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) is required. Ability to work
independently and to organize and prioritize tasks to meet required deadlines. Requires a comprehensive
understanding of Company products and engineering and manufacturing procedures.
