JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: RFL Career Coach Location: Warrington Collegiate & SL Clubs Responsible For: No line management duties Job Grade: Part time secondment Post Reference No: J06/14 Reports to: RFL Operations Director PURPOSE OF THE JOB: One of the main aims of the RFL’s Player Welfare Policy is to ensure that all full time players are prepared and ready to take up a new career when their playing career comes to an end so that they have a smooth transition. The RFL Career Coach is responsible for assisting in this aim by providing career workshops to SL players and one-to-one career advice leading to a personal action plan. PRINCIPAL DUTIES / ACTIVITIES: Deliver career planning workshops and job search techniques workshops to professional Super League players in club environment Provide independent career planning one to one sessions with current and recently retired Super League players to explore career interests and options at clubs Provide one to one job search techniques assistance for transitioning players where necessary Share PDPs with RFL and the player’s club Player Welfare Manager (PWM) Draw up SMART Personal Development Plans (PDPs) during one to one sessions identifying skills gaps, action plans for filling skills gaps and identifying suitable training and/or education courses and advising on funding & grant options Keep the RFL informed about contact with players and/or clubs Provide a follow up service after one to ones to assist with relevant questions, revised PDPs Provide relevant training for PWMs to assist the PWMs in monitoring progress against PDPs and to provide the knowledge for PWMs to assist players in drawing up CVs COMMITMENT TO RFL POLICIES Demonstrates a commitment to the principles of equal opportunity and diversity and to ensuring that the culture, philosophy and processes are free from bias and discrimination. KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SPECIALIST SKILLS (NON-SPORTS RELATED) Essential Strong presentation skills Ability to communicate effectively to groups and in one-to-ones Strong relationship building and team working skills Strong organisation and time management skills Strong understanding of job search techniques Desirable Good administrative skills Knowledge of data protection High level numeracy, literacy and IT skills KNOWLEDGE OF RUGBY LEAGUE (SPORTS RELATED EXPERIENCE) Essential/Desirable Understanding of and interest in the sport of Rugby League Understanding of professional team sports EDUCATION AND/OR TRAINING REQUIRED Hold as a minimum an NVQ Level 3 in Advice & Guidance Driving Licence BEHAVIOURAL CHARCTERISTICS Strong Influencing skills Good confident communicator Strong questioning and listening skills
