School Prayer
Notre Dame High School, Belmont
Good and gracious God,
Just as the sunflower turns toward the sun,
transform our hearts to be dedicated to You.
Empower us to become a community of faith,
service, and leadership,
confident that we can inspire unity.
Encourage us to be lifelong learners,
mirroring the example of St. Julie.
Joined with the traditions of Notre Dame,
may we embody the goodness of God each and everyday.
St. Julie, pray for us.

accountability, leadership, discipline, perseverance,
healthy living, winning/losing with grace & integrity,
dealing with disappointment, setting & achieving goals
and much more.

In Order To Tryout Each Year…
• Must complete Appryse update or create new login
by August 1 each year (Appryse is our web-based
medical information for emergencies).
• Must upload current physical to Appryse by August
1 each year. Athlete CANNOT participate until
physical is complete and turned in.
• Email Athletic Trainer Christina Okubo with
questions – [email protected]
• Information goes out early each spring/summer via
email as well as located on school website.
ATHLETIC PARTICIPATION
FEE
• $150 for the first sport, $100 for a second
sport and $50 for the third sport; Spirit
Squad has a separate athletic fee which
will be discussed at coach breakout. You
may pay these fees tonight – Fall only!
• Fee helps make sure that athletic budget
remains competitive with other athletic
programs in our area
• Hardship? Please contact me!
PLAYING TIME
• Playing time on any level must be earned.
• Coaches determine playing time for their
athletes based on observation and collaboration
with staff. Playing time is not something parents
schedule meetings about with the coaching staff,
AD, or Principal. Individual athletes should
schedule meetings with coaches.
Have Questions or Concerns?
•
•
•
•
STEP 1: Athlete contact and talk to coach
STEP 2: Athlete contact and talk to AD
STEP 3: Parent/athlete meet with coach
STEP 4: Parent/athlete meet with coach and
AD
• STEP 5: AD will involve Administration
• Athletes should initiate all contact with coaches.
Please help with this process – it is a valuable
life skill to teach. Meetings should not take place
with coaches before/after practices/contests
unless previously scheduled.
SCHOOL ATTENDANCE
• All student-athletes are expected to attend all
classes daily
• Any student who represents their school in
athletic competitions must be present in school
the day of the game unless prior arrangements
have been made with the administration.
• A student-athlete who is home sick/other on the
day of a contest is ineligible to compete that day.
NDB ATHLETICS
COMMITTMENT
• Once your daughter(s) has made an athletic
team, you have made a 3 month, full time
commitment! Expect to practice and compete 6
days a week (nothing on Sundays)
• Fall – Tryouts are before school starts – do not
book family vacations without checking when
tryouts begin in fall.
• Winter – Thanksgiving and Christmas Vacation.
• Spring – Easter Break.
TRANSPORTATION
• Coaches will need parents to help drive to and from
contests and off campus practices. All parent volunteer
drivers must complete paperwork (3 items) in order to
drive other athletes to and from games/practices.
• Parent Driver Forms (online – athletics/links/forms)
• Submit Insurance Policy (not card)
• Copy of Driver’s License
• All must be turned in 1 week before driving!
• See Patsy Iannone for more information. Please get
forms turned in ASAP – Fall parents…

SOCIAL MEDIA
• Avoid unsportsmanlike conduct online.
• Athletes should THINK before they text,
blog, take a picture, post on a site—there
is NO PRIVACY!
• Avoid gossip regarding teammates, school
activities, rivalries, coaches, officials, etc.
• Parents – please help out and be aware of
your daughter’s online activities.
Awards Night
• This year, Awards Night is scheduled for
Saturday, May 13, 2017. The night will include
dinner and awards for all teams and parents.
• If after your season, your team would like to
organize a team party – feel free! No school
awards will be given during the team party.
• Awards night meant to be a special event for our
athletes and families.
• We would love parents to help in the planning
and execution of the event – Boosters.
INJURIES / DOCTOR VISITS
• See NDB’s Athletic Trainer first! If your
child visits a doctor for an injury that
occurs in practice/competition, they MUST
have a medical release to return to
practice/competition!
• PARENTS or ATHLETIC TRAINER may
not clear child for return.
OUTSIDE COMPETITION
• During the season of sport, athletes MAY NOT
play on an outside team of the same sport (city
league, club, or church group, etc). Once the
high school season begins, do not jeopardize
the high school team’s eligibility. (athletes may
not miss high school sports for your club sports).
ATHLETIC BOOSTERS
MINUTE
• Parents of athletes are encouraged to join
NDB’s Athletic Booster’s through membership.
The Boosters contributes to athletics what the
budget does not cover - long term, strategic,
capital purchases, allowing us to align with our
school vision of “THE PREMIER SINGLE
GENDER HIGH SCHOOL”.

Team Parent/Program Rep
• Each team (Var Golf, JV Soccer, Cheer, Fr
Volleyball, etc…) needs a parent to volunteer as
team parent/rep. This person helps plan with the
coach for the needs of the season and also works
with the Boosters to help facilitate communication
between teams and athletic administration. Team
parents also helps to motivate other parents to sign
up for snack shack duty. Each coach will ask for this
name when your team meets.
Snack Shack / Event Hours
• All parents (whose daughter makes a team) are required to work 3
volunteer hours (Snack Shack, Casino Night, Sports Banquet,
special projects). This requirement is for each sport played. We will
track hours – Parents will be billed $250 for not completing hours. Or
you may opt out tonight for $200.
• Snack shack hours (Sign-up Genius link) can be
found under “athletics/links and forms” on the NDB Athletics
website. All fall sports parents are asked to sign up ASAP. All Winter
and Spring sports parents may sign up when your daughter makes a
team.
Sports and Spirituality
Anne Stricherz
•
Anne Stricherz has been speaking the language of sports and spirituality her entire
life. Anne credits her high school, Carondelet, with truly forming her into a studentathlete. She currently teaches at St. Ignatius in San Francisco (for the past 14 years).
It is through her experience as a four-year rower at the University of Notre Dame that
she encountered the Alliance for Catholic Education (ACE) Program. ACE grounded
Anne in the ministry and vocation of teaching.
In 2009, Anne created a blog and theology course entitled Sports & Spirituality. An
avid sports fan, Anne believes we can learn more about the spiritual life through the
analogy of sports.
Today she works with coaches to help them create their own program for the spiritual
development of their athletes. She is in the process of writing a book to serve as a
complimentary resource.
Anne has spoken about Sports and Spirituality at parishes, local and national
conferences. She is now working with other athletic departments—in particular at
secondary schools nationwide—to help them "faith train" their athletes.
Thank You For Coming!
