Reports on the feedback from Council’s consultations are placed on Council’s website immediately after the outcomes are considered by Elected Members at a Council meeting. Your feedback helped define a bigger project For those who were members of the Panel last year, you may recall a survey that asked you to mark on maps the parks and reserves you use and how you used them. o N 6 August 2012 Your influence on this cannot be directly measured but certainly the Panel feedback on the survey last year contributed significantly. Thank you to everyone. This was an exciting survey as we were trialling the use of online mapping to draw out patterns in park use. The excellent feedback we received fed into the development of our draft Open Space Strategy. However, it has also directly contributed to the development of a more sophisticated interactive online survey to assess the community’s use of open space and priorities for improvements. Council has teamed up with the University of South Australia to develop the program and shortly there will be letterbox drop to everyone in the Campbelltown Council area inviting them to participate. This is very exciting as it may set a proto-type for use in other Council’s all around Australia. Look out for the flyer in your letterbox. Panel members are encouraged to regularly visit Council’s website to see what other consultations are happening and to download reports on all consultations recently conducted. Check out: www.campbelltown.sa.gov.au/haveyoursay What’s Coming Up Our next big consultation will be on the concept plan options for the Thorndon Park Master Plan. We have already involved the community in helping us to define a vision for the Park (Stage 1), and also identifying priorities and direction for the concept plans (Stage 2). Now we are about to commence Stage 3 where we are going to ask for feedback on our draft concept plans. Panel members will all receive the concept plans and a survey direct (in September). Once we know which of the concept plans (or components) the community prefers, we will put together a final Plan and consult again with the community (Stage 4) on this Plan before it is adopted. We anticipate Stage 4 to take place early next year. 373 Panel Membership Panel prompts an in-depth discussion on this year’s Business Plan and Budget During the consultations on the 2012/2013 Annual Business Plan and Budget, some of those most directly affected by the proposal for the Campbelltown Shopping Centre toilets expressed strong opposition to the proposal. Council acknowledged their concerns but had to look at what other people said as well. Feedback from the Panel showed a very high level of support for the proposal and many provided a rationale for why they supported it. This gave Council greater insight into how the community perceived the proposal. The result was a lengthy discussion by Elected Members in their search to make the right decision for the local community. Ultimately Council resolved to install the toilets, with costs recovered from a Separate Rate payable only by the owners of the You convinced Council on the Open Space Strategy The Panel recently provided feedback on Council’s draft Open Space Strategy. All areas of the Strategy were considered important by respondents and this gave Elected Members confidence to approve the Strategy. However, Panel feedback also identified the need to look at the impact of Carbon Pricing and the potential to tap into Government initiatives such as the Clean Energy Future Program. Accordingly, there is now a reference in the shopping centre, however the term for repayment was extended (reducing the annual fee). The varied views of the Panel on the proposed rate increase also led to much discussion. It was finally decided to proceed with the 5.75% increase as the alternative was a significant cut in services and works. Thank you everyone for sharing your views on this matter. Strategy to explore carbon sequestration opportunities. There were a range of other suggestions, and where possible, suggestions that are consistent with the Strategy will be considered during the development of future action plans. So thank you to everyone for your valuable feedback. You helped make a great Open Space Strategy even more relevant to our local area.
