FBL students won First Prize at the Ist Malaysian Quiz on Japan – 第一回マレーシア日本クイズ大会 This inaugural event was organized by Ambang Asuhan Jepun (AAJ) and held at Pusat Asasi Sains (PASUM) Auditorium on Saturday, 7th December 2015 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. FBL was represented by 3 1st year students (Lee Hui Wern, Wan Nurul Izzah Wan Yusoff and Wong Chin Wee), accompanied by 2 fellow classmates and 2 lecturers, Azni sensei and Suzana sensei as supporters. Participants consisted of 3 students each from 9 programs from 7 institutions: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. UM (AAJ/FBL/FSSS) MJIIT (UTM) INTEC (UiTM) UiTM UPM UKM IIUM At the Preliminary Round participants were divided into 3 groups A, B and C. The team that scored the highest points from each group will proceed to the semi-finals. A fourth team with the highest points from among the remaining teams will also proceed to the semi-finals. In the preliminary round, FBL was grouped with AAJ and UiTM in Group B. 3 sets of questions: 1. Multiple-choice questions, 2. Writing Katakana 3. Writing Answers were asked. Happy faces! What a good start to an incredible journey! 1 A question everybody got the answer right….an anime character! FBL emerged as the winner of Group B and qualified into the Semi Final. The semi-finalist were: Group A: FSSS Group B: FBL Group C: UPM 4th Qualifier: INTEC In the semi-final, participants also had to answer 3 sets of questions to qualify to the finals. The type of questions were: 1. Writing Answers, 2. Yamanote-sen Game, 3. Nippon Ranking Game (Family Feud) The 4 semi-final teams getting ready on stage Nippon Ranking Game (Family Feud) After an hour of nerve-racking questioning and answering, team FSSS and team FBL qualified to the next round: The Grand Finale! For the record, Azni sensei and Suzana sensei are also lecturers to the FSSS students. What a proud moment for the lecturers too! 2 Finalist had to make a short speech! In the final round, the teams needed to go through another 3 sets of more demanding questions than the earlier rounds, in the form of: 1. Hinto de Pinto Game (guessing game by giving hints) 2. Kanji Quiz 3. Quick Draw Teams hard at work recalling symmetrical Kanji during the Kanji Quiz section After another hour of nail-biting moments, the champion of the inaugural Malaysian Quiz on Japan was finally announced… And the winner is……FBL! We hope that this will mark the beginning of a long lasting tradition in Japanese Language Education in Malaysia. Heartiest congratulations to our 1st year students: Lee Hui Wern, Wan Nurul Izzah Wan Yusoff and Wong Chin Wee for their amazing effort despite being requested to enter the quiz on a short notice, and after learning Japanese in just 12 weeks!
