Personal Preferences
One Time Preferences Set Up
Within your VTH user account you can set up how certain things look and work.
These are called Preferences. You should only have to do this once. Below is a
list of common preferences you may want to change. Most of these should be
set up for you prior to training, but you can change them if you wish.
If you are not using VTH/FirstClass for your email service you only need to edit a
few preferences. From your menu bar choose Edit - Preferences
General Tab
 New Mail Form - Outlook (this puts the To address above the
Subject field.
Content Tab
Text Styles:
 Normal text font for every document you type
 Normal size for text
 Normal color for text
Spell Check
 Spell Check - you can have FirstClass automatically check
the spelling in the body of your email before it will send it.
Options
 Link Action (default): What do you want to happen when
you create links in the Free Form Text Area of any web
page?
If you use VTH/FirstClass as your email service you should consider some of
these additional preferences.
General Tab
 New Mail Form - Outlook (this puts the To address above the
Subject field.
 Mailbox Style - Separate Inbox/Outbox. The alternative is a
unified FirstClass mailbox where all incoming, outgoing and
email drafts are stored.
 Download folder: Browser to where you want all downloaded
attachments to be saved.
 Contacts: You can change the way your contacts appear in
your Address Book.

Events Tab
 Event start time interval: On the hour, half hour, quarter hour?
 Event duration
 Default reminder: Set checkbox and how long in advance to
automatically set a reminder for each calendar event you create.
Content Tab

 How do you want "quoted" text in an email to appear?
 How do you want links in an email to appear?

 Spell Check - you can have FirstClass automatically check

 Zoom: Since you cannot change the fonts or size of text of
incoming email messages this provides a way to enlarge the
text to make it easier to read.

Mail Rules
 Reply Preference: When you reply to an email, to whom do
you want the normal reply to be sent?
 Automatic Replies: Do you want to send an automatic
reply to every email sent to you? Local (internal) and
Internet (external). This is often used when you are going on
vacation to let people know not to expect an immediate
reply.
 Reply Text: Free form space to enter your reply message.
Automatic Forwarding: Do you want to automatically forward
every email sent to you to someone else on your staff? Local
(internal) and Internet (external). This is often used when you are
going on vacation.
 Forward to: Enter in the Names of who you want the email
forward to. These Names must either be other email users
in your internal network or people in your Address Book.
Instant Messaging:
 You can refuse invitations automatically if you are in a
meeting.
 Show Presence: Or you can hide your presence if you
are in a meeting.
