New Edible Garden Grant
Project Description:
To enhance the playground environment and extend students food experiences beyond the usual garden
produce they currently attend to by planting native bush tucker plants specifically related to our locality in
the world (where possible). To be able to connect this with studies of Indigenous culture would be beneficial
to our curriculum, which regularly includes investigations into traditional Indigenous lifestyle. For this
reason we hope to establish a bush tucker garden that will support these investigations, and widen the range
of foods students are both aware of and are able to harvest at school. It is envisioned that this will be an
'open' garden where students are free to eat what is grown.

To replace plants that we have lost through the drought years and natural attrition. Through new plantings
we aim to once again provide natural shade areas and the opportunity for students to play amongst the trees.
We would like to re-establish an extensive range of native (or preferably Indigenous) trees around the
perimeter of the school fence line to encourage natural play and sun-safe shaded areas for our students.
