Chino Hills High’s Percussion team won the Percussion Scholastic World Champion title at the Southern California Percussion Alliance (SCPA) Championship Finals on April 15 in Ontario. Chino Valley Unified percussion teams win precious medals at Southern California regional contest; Three teams competing this week in Winter Guard International World Championships Four Chino Valley Unified School District musical percussion teams are dripping in gold and silver this week after competing in the Southern California Percussion Alliance Championship Finals, held April 15 at Citizens Business Bank Arena in Ontario. Chino Hills High took the Percussion Scholastic World Champion title for its first place (gold) win in that division. Ayala High came in second in the same division, earning the silver medal. A team from Ayala also took the silver in the Percussion Scholastic Concert World division. Chino High is the Percussion Scholastic A Champion after winning first place (gold) in that division. In addition: Chino Hills High’s Percussion Scholastic World team took first place awards in effect – music, music, and visual; and second place in effect – visual. Ayala’s Percussion Scholastic World team took first in effect – visual, second place in effect – music and visual, and third in music. Ayala’s Percussion Scholastic Concert World team took second places in music and artistry. Chino High’s Percussion Scholastic A team took first in music, second in effect – visual, third in effect – music, and fifth in visual. Winter Guard International Championships April 20-22 Percussion teams from Ayala and Chino Hills high schools will compete April 20 to 22 in the Winter Guard International (WGI) World Championships in Dayton, Ohio. More than 230 percussion groups from all over the United States and several other countries are entered in the competition. Ayala High was the WGI Scholastic Concert World Percussion Champion in 2006, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2014, 2015, and 2016; the WGI Scholastic World Percussion Champion in 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, and 2016; and the WGI Scholastic A Percussion Champion in 1999. Chino Hills High was the WGI Scholastic World Percussion Champion in 2012, 2013, and 2015. Chino High’s Percussion team was named the Percussion Scholastic A Champion at the SCPA Championship Finals. Ayala High’s Percussion team took two silver medals in the SCPA Championship Finals.
