GAME DAY PROCEDURE AND GENERAL RULES 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Have your team show up on game day 20-30 minutes prior to the start of the game. Check that all your players are warning shin guards and are completely covered by their socks. Make sure that none of your players are wearing any jewelry. Hair barrettes need to be flat. Set up the field with goals and disc or cones on corners if needed. Games for U-6 and U-7 must have small up goal. For U-6 both coaches can be on the field assisting their teams. At U-7 the coach (or other volunteer) should ref if a referee is not present at the game. The duties should be split with each team having responsibility for one half unless the coaches agree to another arrangement prior to the game starting. Set up your team & spectators on the opposite side of the field from the team you are playing. Remember there is to be no one behind the goal box or near the end line. Spectators and parents of players are not to be on the field of play. LSC and CYS and GWSC have a ZERO TOLLERANCE for negative comments and or behavior toward a player, coach and/or referee on either side. Coaches are responsible for their parents on their sideline. Game specifics according to division for small sided / modified programs. No overtime periods; game duration is running time for each half. ***If a team cannot field the required number of players, the coaches can agree to play with fewer players on the field. Coaches should agree to this before the start of the game and inform the referee. 11. Meet the other coach and referee to discuss any concerns. (Example: Substitutions, Off Sides, etc). 12. If there is no referee each team should provide a team parent or coach to referee half of the game. If both teams agree, one person can referee the entire game. Be sure to have available a stop watch (on most smart phones) and a whistle. 13. All goalies are allowed to drop kick/punt the ball. However, from a coaching perspective if you have a goalie that can punt the ball from one end of the field to the other it is better for all players involved that the goalie throws the ball instead. This will prevent the game from being a kicking match back and forth between the goalies. 14. Off sides are to be enforced at the U-10 and above age divisions. Each team should provide a linesman that is familiar with the off sides rules to assist with the referee if the referee would like help. Off-Sides Position Key Points: (a player IS in an offside position if:) • He/She is nearer to his opponents’ goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent. (a player IS NOT in an offside position if:) • He/She is in his own half of the field of play or • He/She is level with the second last opponent or • He/She is level with the last two opponents Offence: A player in an offside position is only penalized if, at the moment the ball touches or is played by one of his team, he is, in the opinion of the referee, involved in active play by: • Interfering with play or • Interfering with an opponent or • Gaining an advantage by being in that position No Offence: There is no offside offense if a player receives the ball directly from: • A goal kick • A throw in • A corner kick 15. There are no direct kicks at U-9 and below, only indirect kicks. 16. Penalty kicks will be granted ONLY at U-11 and above. U-10 only a direct kick from the corner would be granted a goal. 17. Slide tackling will NOT be allowed at U-10 and below. Offenses should be called and awarded a direct kick at U-10 and indirect kick at U-9 and below. U-11 and above may slide tackle if performed correctly.
