Support the 2016 Cervical Cancer Prevention Campaign The WA Cervical Cancer Prevention Program (WACCPP) is calling on all stakeholders across WA to register an activity in support of the 2016 Cervical Cancer Prevention Campaign in November. The Campaign coincides with National Cervical Cancer Awareness Week (7 – 13 November 2016) and aims to encourage women to participate in regular cervical screening. Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable forms of cancer; however data shows that almost half of all eligible women in WA are not participating in cervical screening every two years. Research indicates that there exists amongst women a general lack of understanding of the link between human papillomavirus (HPV) and cervical cancer. Stakeholders such as yourself who register an activity, will help increase awareness of the importance of regular cervical screening by promoting the following key 2016 Campaign messages: Currently, the best way to prevent cervical cancer is through regular cervical screening (Pap smears) every two years HPV is the main cause of cervical cancer All women aged 18-69 years who have ever been sexually active, even HPV vaccinated women, need to undertake regular cervical screening Organisations that register an activity in support of the Campaign can access a range of resources and incentive items from the WACCPP free of charge. Full details of available resources and Campaign items can be viewed in the 2016 Campaign Resource Catalogue. Activities you may wish to hold in your community and register with the WACCPP include: A staffed or unstaffed information stall A presentation about cervical screening An electronic, static or bulletin board display A cervical screening clinic A women’s health forum or morning tea featuring information about cervical cancer prevention A newsletter article Sharing Campaign messages on the social media sites of your organisation Stakeholders that register an activity can enter a photo competition to win a prize. Full details of the competition and how to submit a photo can be viewed in the photo competition entry flyer.
