Your hair should also be pulled back, not half up. On Tryout day hair should be in a neat ponytail and off your face. No jewelry or artificial nails; make up should be kept to a minimum. All candidates should tryout in their PE uniform. Additional Purchases: Cheerleaders will be provided a uniform. Additional purchases include a white turtle neck, white shoes and bloomers (the garment worn under the skirt). These will need to be purchased prior to our first game. Also, we will order a team sweatshirt during the season (approximately $20). Hester Jr. High Cheerleading Expectations: Cheerleaders are chosen representatives of the student body. They have the significant responsibility for promoting good sportsmanship. The most aggressive and vocal voice does not always make the best cheerleader. By setting a good example, cheerleaders can influence and help control the reaction of student and adult spectators. They are often seen as the representatives not only of a school, but of a community as well. Cheerleaders should embody not only athletic ability, but enthusiasm, spirit, leadership, ethics, integrity, sportsmanship and friendliness. Take this responsibility seriously. Your attitude is a reflection of yourself and the entire student body. During the season, coaches may use a demerit system to enforce squad expectations. Cheerleader Rules & Responsibilities for Practice and Games Dress: Uniforms are to be kept neat and clean. No jewelry is permitted at practice or games. Hair must bust pulled up (including long bangs and loose sides) for all practices and games. Nails should be natural and trimmed. This is for safety reasons. Make-up should be minimal and natural. Attendance: ABSENCES CAN BE THE DOWNFALL OF A GREAT CHEERLEADING SQUAD. If one or more squad members are absent from practice or game, the other members are forced to make last minute changes. This can be both stressful and dangerous to squad members. If you commit to cheerleading, you are committing to attend every practice and game. You must be in school to practice or cheer that day. Practices and games are required, for the entire time, unless previously approved by the advisor. Unexcused absences are those caused by anything other than illness or family emergencies. Absences must be asked for and excused. If you are ill or have a family emergency, the coach needs to be notified by a parent or guardian in order for this absence to be excused. Conduct: School rules are to be followed at all times. Do not chew gum or candy at practices or games. Any action that reflects negatively on your squad or school, wherever it occurs, may result in disciplinary measures. Cheerleading Game Notes and Pick-up Times: Know the required cheers and be aware of the game at all times. Sit together with your squad and coach to watch the game. Remain quiet during free throw shots Sit 2-3 people on the bus. You are to sit with the cheerleading squad, NOT the basketball team. Cheerleading Game Notes and Pick-up Times Continued: Part of a coach’s job is to know where you are at all times during practices, games, and special events. Consequences will be issued for failure to follow the coach’s direction or to stay in assigned areas during events. Please ask before using the restroom or getting a drink, etc. If your parents are picking you up from the game, bring your stuff with you, and tell a coach before leaving. It is imperative that each cheerleader is picked up on time.
