Problems on a Single Particle in Static Equilibrium:
Note. The following tutorial assignments deal with the equilibrium of a single
particle: At-Home Tutorial Assignment 1, In-Tutorial Assignment 1, Tutorial
Assignment 2, Problem 4 and Problem 5 of At-Home Tutorial Assignment 3
and Problem 1 of In-Tutorial Assignment 3.
The two problems of Lecture 5 deal with the equilibrium of a single particle.
Problem 1 of Pulleys and Springs deals with the equilibrium of a single particle.
1. A particle is subjected to four coplanar forces (as shown in the figure
below). Determine the magnitude of F and the orientation, θ, of the 750
N force for equilibrium.
2. With reference to the following figure, determine the maximum weight of
the engine that can be supported without exceeding a tension of 2000 N
in cable AB and 2200 N in cable AC.

3. Determine the forces in cables AB and AC necessary to support the light
fixture of weight 150 N.
4. If the bucket and its contents have a total weight of 150 N, determine
the force in the supporting cables DA, DB and DC to maintian static
equilibrium (all of the distances given in the figure are in meters).
