This years scouting
incorporates the use
of iPads to streamline
the scouting process

Along with being
quicker, this process
will be easier and less
tedious for the user
than in previous years
Starting
To begin, power on your iPad by pressing
and holding the button on the top right
hand corner of the iPad like in the example
below. *Note* hold to power on, press to wake
Initializing
Once your iPad is
Powered on, your screen
will look roughly like this
Using your finger, tap
Scouting 2012 to begin.
*Note* To go on to the next

Your screen should now look

To log in, make sure the circle
is highlighted on iPad as shown
Apply your correct username
and password and press log in
to continue.
*Note* If you have a problem
logging in or forget your
password, contact a scouting
team member.

Home Screen
The scouting home
screen has several
options.
1. Scouting – Main
scouting page used for
data input.
2. Substituting – Used
when prompted to
substitute by scouting
team. *Note* Do not
substitute without
contacting a scouting
team member. This
information is logged.

Starting Your Shift
To begin, select scouting tab from the
previous menu.
On the next screen, select your intended
match.
But wait, a few
symbols are
important!

Once on the scouting dashboard, a few
symbols are important:
Signifies that the match has expired
Indicates the match is in progress
Dictates the match has yet to begin.
Now that the symbols are
understood, back to the task
at hand.

*Note* Match subject to change.
You will be prompted by this screen.
Starting Your Shift
This screen allows
the user to input
information
such as team
number and select
starting location. In
addition, scoring in
autonomous will
be recorded.
*Note* These
inputs will be
explained in the
next few slides.

Step 1, select a team using this tab.
Once tapped, the tab will reveal a drop
down menu of teams in the match
Select the appropriate team and
continue. Your scouting position will be
dictated by your seat. These positions
will be explained in the next slide
*Note* if match schedule given by Pit
Admin is incorrect, a list of all teams
will be shown.
Who Do I Scout?
The Team Selection Panel you used earlier will
dictate the positions of the teams in a match
and the Scouting Agenda dictates the position
you should be scouting and your seat in the
below arrangement.

correct position
but will instead be
labeled. The
symbols are
simply used as a
teaching tool.
Starting Your Shift Cont.
Next select the starting
position of your team.
This position may be
found by simply doing
this: Imagine yourself
standing in the center of
the field. As you are
facing the robots, they
are positioned left middle
and right. Remember
when you turn to face the
opposing robots, your
orientation changes. At
first this may seem like a
difficult concept but the
diagram to the left will
help explain. If you find
yourself in need of
assistance feel free to
ask any team member to
assist you.
Autonomous Scoring
Indicate a dead
autonomous by
pressing the on/off
toggle switch.
*Note* Yes equals a
dead auto.
Press numerical
value under Balls
Scored on XXX
Basket and select the
appropriate variable.
Press
Save and Continue
when complete
Teleop Scoring
TOP
After pressing Save and
Continue on the Autonomous
Screen, a Teleop Scoring
Screen will appear
Middle
Press the appropriate hoop
when your robot scores.
*Note* Top in this example
currently has 4 points, Middle
2 and Bottom 1.
If your team commits a Foul
or Technical Foul, tap that
field to record the data.
Bottom
Press
Save and Continue
when complete
After Teleop
After pressing Save and Continue
on the Teleop Scoring Screen , a
Post Game Screen will appear
with several fields covered in the
next three slides
Toggle the appropriate field for a
Dead Match, a Tipped Robot or a
Forced Foul.
Also note if your robot crossed
the middle bump or made use of
a bridge.
Additionally, record how your
robot balanced or their lack of an
attempt.
*Note* A square may be skinny
but not fat due to the fact you
cannot build a robot max
dimension by max dimension

Additional information to
be recorded on the Post
Game Screen includes
the following:
If your robot was a
defensive robot, toggle
the appropriate switch
*Note* Defensive robots
may of scored during the
match
Indicate the level of
defense your robot
maintained during the
match
*Note* Even
offensive robots may
attempt defense and thus
receive a score.
Also please indicate a
comment about your
robot during the match or
an important note to be
recorded. You may select
a generic comment using
the drop down menu or
type the comment
yourself by selecting the
After Teleop Cont.
When done indicating
information hit save to
save your information for
later editing by yourself or
hit save and submit to
send your data to be
evaluated by the
software.
*Warning* Once you
toggle save and submit,
you may not edit your
data and the match will be
marked as complete.
Thank You Come Again
After you submit, the match will change to
indicate it is complete and the scout is free
to record the next match or must wait in
their seat until the iPad is collected by the
Scouting Team to be charged.
*Note* While waiting for
your iPad to be collected
please wipe the screen
free of any oil or dirt left
after use
Additional Notes
While using the scouting system each individual
scout will be awarded points automatically by the
software. Scouts with the highest points will be
given an award determined at a later date.
Any comments and questions are welcomed by
your Scouting Team (aside from what the award
is at this time, it’s a secret)
