Dear Players, Referees, and Families, Welcome to the U.S. Youth Soccer Region I Championships here in Barboursville, West Virginia. We hope you will enjoy the event, the sights, and all the activities here in the Mountain State. Below you will find some helpful information regarding the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, June 30, 2016 at Joan C. Edwards Stadium at Marshall University (Google GPS Address: 2001 3rd Avenue, Huntington, WV 25703). Free parking is located in various lots around the stadium and are within walking distance. All stadium gates will be open at 2 p.m. No outside food or drink is allowed in the stadium. There will be concessions stands open for your convenience. Players and Referees will be seated on the East side of stadium (opposite the press box) while spectators will be seated on the west side (press box side) of the stadium. The "Cross Bar Elimination Competition", sponsored by Region I, will be held at the Opening Ceremonies. Every team in the 15 state associations will need to select ahead of time one player to represent their team. Boys and girls will compete separately among similar age groups (12-13, 14-15, 16-17, 18-19). Each player will have one opportunity to hit the cross bar 20 yards out from the goal. Those that succeed will continue till 5 or less players remain. Up to 5 winners will be awarded a prize per age group. All participants (1 per team) will need to meet at Gate “C”, on the Press Box side of the stadium at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday June 30, in order to compete. US YOUTH SOCCER REGION I CHAMPIONSHIPS OPENING CEREMONY TIMELINE - JUNE 30, 2016 • 1pm - Volunteers report inside Gate B South, the 249th Army Rock Band begins playing outside along with other planned activities • 2pm - Stadium opens to the public, VIP rooms open, signup for Marshall tours, and other planned activities begin. The 249th Army Rock Band will perform inside • 2:30pm - Cross Bar Elimination Competition Contestants report at Gate C • 3pm - Cross Bar Elimination Competition begins on the field. Bumper soccer players and coaches participating in Tug of War should report to Gate C • 3:20pm - Tug of War begins on the field • 3:30pm - A 5v5 bumper soccer game begins on the field • 3:40pm - All players and refs must be seated in designated area on East End of stadium • 3:45pm - “Team Fastrax Professional Skydiving Team” jump • 3:50pm - Ceremony begins with opening remarks • 3:53pm - Flag roll out for "Star Spangled Banner" national anthem • 3:57pm - Remarks and welcome from Region I Director Natalie Schwoeble • 4:07pm - Music by 249th Army Band resumes and players begin to lineup for parade • 4:08pm - "Chicken Dance/Hokey Pokey" accompanied by the 249th Army Rock Band • 4:14pm - Parade begins • 5:14pm - All players are on lined up on the field • 5:15pm - “Let the Games Begin” announcement as players and referees exit field
