Playing in a Golf Match Things to Know 1. Golfballs 1. Mark each goal ball with it different mark. 2. Always show the golf ball you are using in the match. 3. When playing a provisional ball also show that ball to the other team. 2. Golf GPS 1. You are allowed to use a golf GPS in your match. 2. You cannot use a golf GPS on your phone. 3. You cannot use a golf GPS that gives wind and slope of the greens information. 4. You are allowed to ask someone in your group that has a golf GPS device for distance information. 5. When in doubt, you should show your GPS device to the coaches monitoring the match, to be sure your device is a proper one. 3. Scorecard 1. Put your name on a scorecard and swap that card with your opponent in the match. 2. On the first tee and keep track of the players score throughout the match. 3. Confirm the score at the end of each hole. 4. Keep track of every shot your opponent hits. 5. At the end of the match go over all scores on the car before signing it. Be sure to see the numbers on the card before signing it. 4. Walking the Course 1. Pace of play 1. Keep a good pace. Your job is to keep up with the group in front of you. 2. Be ready when it's your turn to hit. 3. The player who is farthest from the pin on the green is always the first to hit. 2. Provisional shots 1. Play provisional shot when you feel the ball could be lost. Page 1 of 2 2. Be sure to show your opponents the ball you are using for the provisional shot and make sure that ball has a different mark than the first one you hit. 3. Play your provisional ball up until you look for your first ball. If you find your first ball, you must play the first ball. 4. You do have the option of not looking for the first ball. If you do not want to find the first ball, be sure to tell everyone in your group not to look for it. 3. Walk with the group you are playing with. Do not walk way ahead of the group. 4. If your opponent goes in the woods to look for a ball, you go in the woods with your opponent to help out. 5. Replace all divots. 5. Hazards 1. You cannot ground your club in a hazard. 2. You are allowed to remove red stakes if they are in the way of your shot. 3. You cannot remove white out-of-bounds stakes as they are part of the course. 6. The Greens 1. Once all balls are on the green they should all be marked. 2. Fix your ballmark and perhaps another one or two you notice on the green. 3. Bunkers 1. Rake the bunker after your shot. 2. Do not enter or exit of bunker from the high side. 3. You cannot hit the sand in the bunker during a practice shot. 4. Putting 1. Only one ball should be visible on the green. All others should be marked. 2. Stand 90° away from the person that is putting. You should not stand behind or in front of someone that's putting so that you can get a read of the putt. 3. The first person that puts the ball in the hole will then get the flagstick. 4. All players must stay on the green until all four golfers have finished the hole. Page 2 of 2
