This session is an opportunity to see how easy it is to have a little fun. The Achieving Our Potential (2008), Equally Well (2008) and the Early Years Framework (2008) policies provide support through the early years to give children in Scotland the best possible start to life. This creates a question: how are parents actively supported to make this a reality? play@home is a programme given to every new parent to support them in encouraging their child to be active. It’s full of ideas including baby massage, water-based activities, movement, songs and rhymes. All aspects of child development can be supported using play@home and parents also benefit through this positive interactive approach. MH12-001-CC Recent evaluation of the impact of play@home has shown positive improvement in motor and cognitive development in toddlers, fine motor development in children of pre-school age and increased pleasure in parenting (Mercer et al 2011). In addition this evaluation found that play@home was used and enjoyed across all Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation areas.
