BUMI Gets Two ASEAN Energy Awards 2013
Jakarta 28 September 2013
PT Bumi Resources Tbk (“BUMI”, or “the Company”) proudly announces that good mining practices of its
subsidiary PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) is recognised as one of the best in ASEAN, winning two awards at the
ASEAN Energy Awards held in Bali, Indonesia on Wednesday, 25 September 2013.
The first award is the Best Practice in Surface Coal Mining, presented by the Secretary of Energy of the
Philippines and accepted by Mr Endang Ruchijat, the CEO of KPC.
The Second award is Runner-up for the Best Mining Practice in Coal Distribution category, received by Mr
Imanuel Manege, the General Manager of Health Safety Environment and Security (GM HSES) of KPC.
Assessment aspects at the ASEAN Energy Awards for the coal mining activities and coal distribution are: the
impacts of these activities, which cover community development, ASEAN coal supply (i.e. company’s
contribution to supply coal to ASEAN countries), the company’s HR development programs, and the
company’s productivity, which include production cost per ton per man-shift and stripping ratio; the
company’s sustainability, which covers health, safety, and environmental performance), its productivity, as
well as community reception of its activities; and replicability and originality, which considers whether the
programs can be replicated and implemented by others through knowledge sharing, good mining practices
(GMP), HSES, and CSR.
“We are very proud of these awards. These assessment criteria demand superiority in all aspects of a good
mining practice and we are delighted that our commitment in GMP has been recognised by the ASEAN
countries,” says Endang Ruchijat, CEO of KPC. “KPC will continue this commitment and to innovate in its
Business Improvement Projects to improve efficiency and operational performance,” he adds.
The ASEAN Energy Awards 2013 is organised by the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE) and directed by Energy
Ministers of ASEAN countries as a way to encourage improvement in energy conservation.
This is the second time for KPC to receive awards in the ASEAN Energy Awards. The first was in 2011, when
KPC awarded the best winner in Tropical Bulding category, which recognise energy efficient buildings, and
Best Practice Competition for Energy Management in Buildings and Industries.
