School Travel Outcomes

School Travel Plans
School Travel Outcomes Document
This School Travel Outcomes Document replaces the previous School Travel Plan and School Travel Plan Monitoring and Reviewing
Documents. Annually updating this Document will help your school to record and monitor travelling to school improvements and
should be co-ordinated with the School Development Plan.
Did you know…?
Setting outcomes to improve active and sustainable travel to school links well with Healthy Schools physical activity outcomes, as
well as helping your school reduce carbon emissions and improving green credentials. In addition, it can help reduce congestion
around your school gates, making the environment safer and more pleasant for your pupils and the school community.
If you do not currently have an up-to-date School Travel Plan…
…you can still use this document to set out your school’s travel priorities, outcomes and milestones for the year ahead and work with
it.
Step 1 – Look through your existing Travel Plan and familiarise yourself with the objectives, targets and actions
Have you achieved what you set out to achieve? If not what were the barriers?
Step 2 – Take a good look at the School Travel Outcomes Document attached
We have made some suggestions for setting priorities, outcomes and milestones, which give a good starting point.
Step 3 – Draw your school community in to the process
You will need to provide new travel data on how your pupils travel to school, which will help raise the profile of the School Travel
Outcomes Document amongst pupils and staff as well as providing vital information for you to set targets and actions for the coming
year. In order to get a good idea of the travel issues that your school faces you should survey your parents/carers, staff and
governors as well as your pupils.
