Swim Lesson Level Guide
Ages 6 months to 3 years old– enroll in Tadpoles: parent/child class
Ages 6 and older– move to School Age Levels (next page)
Preschool levels
Ages 3 to 5
Is your child comfortable in a pool and can bob their head underwater?
Can your child do front and back float without assistance?
Can your child swim 10 yards each of back and side paddle with an IFD?
Can your child swim 5 yards front paddle without assistance?
Can your child jump into the pool without assistance?
NO to ANY questions? Enroll in Pike
YES to ALL questions? Move to Eel
Will your child swim with his/her face in the water without any help?
Can your child do front and back float unassisted for 10 seconds?
Can your child swim unassisted 10 yards of front crawl?
Can your child swim unassisted 5 yards of each of the following:
Back crawl, sidestroke, and elementary backstroke?
NO to ANY questions? Enroll in Eel
YES to ALL questions? Move to Ray
Can your child do front and back float unassisted for 15 seconds?
Is your child comfortable in the deep end and can tread water for 20 seconds?
Can your child tread water for 20 seconds in the deep end?
Can your child do a kneeling dive correctly?
Can your child swim unassisted 15 yards of front crawl?
Can your child swim unassisted 10 yards of each of the following:
Back crawl, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and basic breaststroke?
NO to ANY questions? Enroll in Ray
YES to ALL questions? Move to Starfish
Can your child tread water for 1 minute in the deep end?
Can your child swim unassisted 20 yards front crawl with side breathing?
Can your child swim unassisted 15 yards of each of the following:
Back crawl, sidestroke, elementary backstroke, and breaststroke?
Can your child do a standing dive correctly?
NO to ANY questions? Enroll in Starfish
Key Terms:
It is best to choose a low level when registering to ensure your child feels comfortable.
Please do not register your swimmer in a level higher than their actual skill level.
