JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Senior Physiotherapist EDS/U21s DEPARTMENT: Academy REPORTS TO: Head of Performance & Head of Physiotherapy (Academy) LOCATION: First team building & Academy DATE: 2016 ____________________________________________________________ Job purpose The purpose of the role is to: To assist the delivery of medical/rehabilitation services based within the academy (professional development phase) but at the EDS level, in addition to making clinical decisions on a daily basis at EDS/U21 level. _____________________________________________________________ Key responsibilities Acute Intervention: To assist in the injury management of all EDS/U21 players with the aim of optimising the healing process. Injury Prevention: Reduce the risk of injury occurrance within the academy with the development of appropriate screening and injury prevention strategies. Rehabilitation: Design evidence based protocols for return to full function of the academy players and allow them to compete at the highest level while minimising the risk of reoccurrence of injury. Encourage an interdisciplinary approach of working within the department that includes close links to all areas of the club. To maintain all legal and professional qualifications in relation to own profession and maintain the equivalent standards for all the therapists within the department. To create relationships with players, their parents and coaches to support injury rehabilitation needs. To oversee and supervise appropriate Continuous Professional Development training for all academy therapists. To ensure the latest clinical, scientific and technical innovations to practice are incorporated into maintaining the highest level of care. As part of the Sports Medicine Department provide emergency aid cover for both training sessions and matches. To maintain up to date REMO accreditation to meet all legal requirements for this specific part of the role. To attend and professionally engage in the internal emergency aid training programme. To maintain detailed records for the department of all therapy care in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures. To fulfill the role of a chartered physiotherapist in the assessment, diagnosis and rehabilitation of all injuries. A thorough understanding of the physical & mental demands of elite football & long-term player development. Technical/Clinical/rehab skills: skills specific to the job e.g. Injury assessment/Rehabilitation/Pitchside management Essential A detailed knowledge of the MSK “likely injury problems,” Injury prevention strategies, & long term rehab plans. General skills and attributes: more general characteristics e.g. flexibility, communication skills, team working etc. Essential Ability and willingness to be flexible with working hours - working irregular and unsociable hours as required, including work outside normal office hours, at evenings, weekends and Bank Holidays. Exceptional ability to motivate individual players through the pre & rehab process. Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and scholars/parents. Ability to understand players needs both on and off the pitch. Actively seeks out knowledge and professional development in the field of performance medicine. A positive outlook and approach. Ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
