COACHING DRILL 004 – ‘Cross Passing”
OBJECTIVE:
Improve passing and awareness
PLAYERS:
12-16
AREA:
20m x 20m
EQUIPMENT:
Cones, balls x 2 (plus 2 spares)
SET-UP:
Arrange the players in four lines as per the diagram inside an area 20m x 20m. The player at the front of line A
passes across to the opposite line and follows his ball to join the back of the group. The player at the front of line B
does likewise, but making sure that both himself and the ball avoid collision with the player and/or ball from A. Each
player continues in turn to pass and follow his ball. Get the practice moving as quickly as possible to create realism
and increase difficulty.

Passing – area of foot, weight of pass

Control – out of feet
PROGRESSIONS:
•
Limit to two touch, one touch
•
Restrict to right foot, left foot
•
Players must do a wall-pass with their opposite number
•
Extend area to 30m x 30m and get players to clip the ball onto their colleagues chest
•
Change area to 30m x 10m and have one ball going ‘long’ in the air and one going ‘short’ on the
ground
